just curious as to what makes a good donor column? oviously the stock tild and the van tilts but any cars or event eh 73-? trucks? whats the diffrences?

A tilt out of a motor home looks almost like the truck tilt. The shaft is very close to the one on the truck unlike the van tilt, Jim

I pulled one out of an early 80s motorhome and it was an exact swap into the truck. Like you mentioned, the shaft length was exact and didn't require relocating the neutral safety switch or shortening the intermediate steering shaft.

cool ill look for one of them aslo.. anyother good swaps, fab work is no issue, in 67 i dont think chevy intended for a cummins motor ant trans to fit in a 2wd truck anyways

a tilt column from a circa 1984 truck will work fine as long as you don't mind removing the key lock and filling it over. i pulled one out of a truck to throw in my 69 as a temp column to steer the cab/chassis around. it measured the same exact length of the 69 non tilt column i had but it also uses a double d intermediate shaft instead of a knurled one like the original column. i am toying with the notion of using an f-body column by removing the plate that bolts to the firewall since i wanted to shorten the column anyway to make more gut room.

after all is said and done, i may just keep the column lock as a sort of antitheft so a thief has to hotwire the truck as well as break the column open in order to steal it.

hmmm... up to what year did they have high low on the floor? and when did the wipers move to the column. thats my biggest thing, i want wipers on the dash. and high low on the floor. i could care less bout the keys in dash or on column.

i don't know offhand what years they changed the wipers and high/low. as far as i know the high/low remained on the floor for quite a while. if you don't want the wipers and stuff i am pretty sure all you have to do is pop the wiper control lever out and replace it with a regular lever without all the switches on it. if i get a chance today i'll pop a regular lever out of another gm column and try it in the truck column. as far as the high/low are concerned, just keep the old one wired and don't use the one the column provides!
