I think i can!!! - SWB 72 Step-side

I have been debating on doing a build thread for a while... i think if i would have started it i while back i could have got some helpful input. So here we go!!

I bought my 72 step-side 3 years ago. It was my dream truck. My idea was to buy a nice truck and have fun driving it, which is what i did for the first year. After watching you guys on the forum making building dream trucks look easy, i thought i would give it a shot. My goal is to have a truck that is FUN to drive and looks great.

this is what i started with... great my old pictures or on the other computer

Re: I think i can!!! - SWB 72 Step-side

The first thing I did was bag the front. I used a set of bag plates but it was not as low as i wanted. I removed the Lower control arms and replaced them with tubular control arm with a 2.5 drop build in.

Re: I think i can!!! - SWB 72 Step-side

On the rear I installed c-notch and a watts linkage. Then ran all 3/8 stainless line. I used auto locks air command for air management. I hid the brain for the air command in the center consol. For valves i used 8-Port Valve Block and a 5 gallon air tank and compressor.

Re: I think i can!!! - SWB 72 Step-side

In the bed i removed the tool box gas tank and install a plastic 13 gallon tank. I also had to remove the center boards to install the bed.

After i install the air ride i started having problems with my motor. An intake lobe on the cam rounded off. So I started pulling the motor and removing the dog house off. My plane was to rebuild the 350 into a 383 stroke and repaint all all parts under the hood.

Re: I think i can!!! - SWB 72 Step-side

The next task was to clean up the firewall and repaint it. I was going to rebuild my motor but decided to buy a crate motor from Blue Print motors. A 383 stroker with vortec heads, roller cam and 420 hp and 440 torque. With the help of my dad and brother we hooked up the 700r4 and installed it.

Re: I think i can!!! - SWB 72 Step-side

With all the new power under the hood it is time for some new brakes. Plus i need some drop spindles to bring my nose down. I choose McGaughys 13" Big Brake Kit. The kit was well designed and easy to install. It made a big difference in braking performances and brought the nose down just right.
