I was reading some literature that I recently picked up on 1967 GMC's, the pleasure trucks brochure and noticed that they mentioned a 9' wideside body was available. Perhaps it was a concept then even though it wasn't produced? The data pages (near the end) don't list specs for anything other than the 8ft wideside though and no example have been discovered, have they? I just thought it was interesting. Looking on the board here, it seems the first longhorn was late in '68. Thoughts?? Anyways, heres some pics.

I think it was march of 68 for the first longhorn. I am sure andy will correct me if i am wrong.

that is correct, march of 68, and I have yet to see/hear of a 68 GMC longhorn clone.
I suspect this blurb is a mix up. Since the longhorn/custom camper had an 8 1/2 foot bed, and not a 9 foot bed, BUT, there was in fact a 6 1/2, 8, and 9 foot stepside... I suspect they just screwed up the advertisment.

There was a 9 foot stepside GMC that was in my hometown. It was at the local Mobil service station. It was the company truck. It was gray and said "Mobil Oil Co. Orting, WA" on the side.

That truck is long gone... but I remember it vividly as I walked past it every day going to school as a kid.

I have that brochure. First they give general information that beds are available in the three lengths. Next,they start telling you about the Wideside then talk about the Fenderside. The fact that it says it under the picture of a Wideside is a coincidence. It's two pages of text talking about both styles. The Custom Campers (Longhorns) were 8 1/2' and the Fendersides were 9'. That should make it clear they weren't referring to Widesides. I can see where at first it could be misleading. But,remember,this was printed before there was a Longhorn to be confused with.
GM always made 9' bed one tons. In fact,they made them longer at one time,as seen in my avatar.
