Aww, nothing too technical. I just powdercoated a whole bunch of them last year.

The difference in the hood latch is the orientation of the handle. One has the handle centered and the other is offset to line up with the hole in the inner grille.

71-72 latch. Notice the handle is offset toward the driver's side of the truck.


69-70 latch. The handle comes straight out...


The vertical latch support panel is shaped different in that the 69-70 has a scalloped shape on the front to nestle inside the center grille bar while the 71-72 has no scallop as the eggcrate grille of that era was virtually flat, lacking the raised center bar the earlier trucks had.

I actually ruined (in some people's opinion) a mint 70 model grille awhile back to convert it to 71-72 style.
