Should I trade my 55 for this 66
Here is the info I have right now still waiting on more pics of the 66. He says he wants to trade for a 55 or a Toyota 4X4. He says he drives the truck. I don't know how much. This is his description.

Re: Should I trade my 55 for this 66
Wow, tough one. I would say probably not, but that's just me. I do have a soft spot for the 55-57 trucks. I almost swapped my 2 door post BelAir for one when I was much younger, but I backed out. I had a 55 chevy navy truck that I gave to a buddy of mine years ago, and I have always regretted that. If the four runner is yours, swap him that!

Re: Should I trade my 55 for this 66
I wouldn't for a long bed. The only thing going for it, is the bbw, besides that its just another 66. I had a 55 and 59 an I miss them both. But if your looking for a 60s truck, hold out for a better one. Unless its cleaner than the little pic shows. In my opinion, a beat up 55 is worth alot more than a beat up 66. Not that your truck is beat, but you catch what I'm throwing.

Re: Should I trade my 55 for this 66
I'd stake everything on condition. I also like the 55-57's so from a preference standpoint it would be hard to pick, other than one having much more potential than the other.
The only concern being the comment about it being the "rare long bed". I assume that means he thinks it's worth more than its actual value. |

Ya already got one of the nicest 60-66's... I'd hang onto the '55.

I thought he was being sarcastic. If not, I feel your concern.

Re: Should I trade my 55 for this 66
Thanks guys for the feedback. My purpose in this possible trade is to have a beater 66 to drive. I've been trying to sell the 55 for sometime now. I can't afford to buy another truck and to be honest I don't need another truck in the yard. Unless I get rid of one of them.
I would much rather trade the 4Runner than the 55. It's got some special character. There are some comments that worry me: 1. Being a rare longbed 2. I asked him about the rockers and cab corners. He said the truck is rust free. We all know better. I'm still waiting on more pics from him and I sent him pics of the 55 and 86.

yeah, i'd hold off on that trade...your '55 has a ton of character...i can't believe someone hasn't jumped on it yet, but i guess it must be the economy....i think you should make the '55 a driver!

Re: Should I trade my 55 for this 66
From experience, I would say that you already know alot about your '55 and there are sure to be some hidden bombs that you will want to fix. We all know how that opens up the can of worms.

Re: Should I trade my 55 for this 66
If you trade off the 55 I'm 99% sure that Karma will make you a very unhappy person. Possibly including worms and
something that smells like old fish. I love a longbed because I use my trucks but that 55 is worth 10x the eye-grin that the 66 beast is worth. Easy choice: Give him the toy. Get your 66 AND the 55. Pwn at life. Update and let us know what you do Last edited by GMC4wheels71; 04-02-2011 at 12:43 AM. |

i beleive that you need to do whatever makes you happy, you mentioned that you have been trying to sell the 55 for a while,if you are like me i'll keep one a year or two then on to something new and that lights the fire all over again.,and money is'nt always the trick.
good luck! |

Keep the 55 for sure. 60-66 long beds are every where. I've been wanting that 55 since you put it up for sale.

Re: Should I trade my 55 for this 66
yep, keep the 55, you can find a "rare" longbed 66 pretty much anywhere... Now, if he'd trade the 66 for the toyota...

Re: Should I trade my 55 for this 66
If you can, get a good, in-person look at the '66. Make notes about it's condition, and let the seller wait a few days on your decision. That might change the deal, especially if the seller is desperate.
Don't trade the '55. Trade the 4Runner. His description is puzzling: "1966 custum cab/big back glass (GOOD!).front anti sway bar/factory tint (GOOD)gauge pkg (GOOD)heavy half ( I'm confused on that one...)/deluxe heat (GOOD)/factory power asst steering( GOOD)/stock 283 (GOOD) runs drives perfect (VERY GOOD).yes it is a rare longbed (Great feature if you're going to use the truck as a hauler, but not rare). It's a very interesting deal, and I'd trade the Toyota for it. That is, unless the Toyota is your daily driver, and you can't give it up. I love old Chevy trucks, so I guess I'm biased.

Re: Should I trade my 55 for this 66
I say grab the '66 if it is in as good of shape as he says. You can always find another '55 later when the time is right.

I have seen some heavy half tons out here in my searches. The 2WD heavy half has rear leaf springs like a 3/4 ton. Cab and Chassis trucks are also considered the heavy halfs.

I would have to say No. I'm kinda partial to 50's pickups, but it's your choice.

Re: Should I trade my 55 for this 66
Thanks again for all the inputs, he still hasn't responded to my email. I will call him to see what's up.
I've always wanted to make the 55 into a driver. Don't have the cash to do so right now. I'd like to do a S10 swap on it, but no time or money. The 66 will have problems of it's own like we all know.
