stepside or fleetside?

I just swapped out my fleetside for a stepside and it was not too difficult. Just need to make sure you have LOTS of lock washers on hand.

Re: Taking apart sides of longbed need help!

Dismantling I did this with a chisel and hammer, but I am sure you have some better tools then I did 4 years ago. Remember the welds on the back where the sides attach to the back. This is on a wood bed. Have lots of patience just have fun. Rebuilding the bed, take the time to brain storm and get your ideals captured in case you had some mods in mind. I get excited sometimes and want to get it done, but thinking it out and completing one step at a time will get you a really nice bed in the end. Also, while the bed is off and you feel you need to attend to the frame area then this is a great time to do that as well. I had some additions the prior owner welded on that I wanted removed and with the bed off it was a whole lot easier. I am currently building my Longhorn bed and I am purposely taking my time to get it right while opportunity is there. Good Luck and look forward to some pics later.

I used a impact gun on most of the bolts, on the ones that just spun I had my wife hold with a pair of vice grips. make sure to cut the weld in the back on the floor, and thats all thats to it.
