Brake Trouble

On my 71 chevy with a 12 bolt rearend and drum brakes. something came apart and everything inside the drum was chewed to bits. does anyone know where i can find a whole backing plate, and drum assembly along with all the parts inside? I know that i rear disc conversion would be the easiest, but i dont really want to spend that much yet.

Re: Brake Trouble

the backer plate adjuster and metal parts you can get from a wrecking yard the springs and shoes from your parts house (Napa might have all internal parts)

Re: Brake Trouble

We can come up with used parts for it. Call John at 816-584-0563. He has a bunch of salvage vehicles. Call from 9 AM to 6 pm central time.

Re: Brake Trouble

backing plate and spreader bar would be used only. Everything else should be avalible at NAPA or a lower quality parts house.
I would recomend trying to locate a vintage drum, the replacement ones suck.

Re: Brake Trouble

the spring kit for these trucks is usually less then $20 for both wheels. you should be able to rebuild both sides with new hardware and new shoes for under $60 not including wheel slave cylinders not worth getting all used parts, you won't know what shape the used springs are in and if they fail you will have to redo the repair
