wooden bed
just saw a sweet '64 with a wooden bed floor in town yesterday. it got me thinking about one for my truck. is there a wooden bed floor kit for our trucks?
i know i've seen some photos here of some wooden bed floors. is it an easy job or would i have to get a whole new bed? |

some trucks came stock with wood beds, you might be better off buying or even try to trade for a wood bed.

Wood bed floors were optional on fleetside beds and standard on stepside and longhorns.
All the vendors carry kits. You can get many varieties of wood and the strips can be ordered in plain steel, stainless, or polished stainless. The kits will come with all bolts and needed hardware too. It is possible to convert your steel floor to wood, however be aware of the following: 1. You will need a bed end panel for a wood floor truck as this is different than your steel floor one due to the thickness of the wood floor vs steel. These are available aftermarket or used. 2. You will need to purchase the cross sills, including the end sill by the tailgate. Again available aftermarket. The # of sills required varies between short ad long beds. Basically, you keep your existing bedsides and tailgate and replace everything else.

The wheel tubs are also the same on both beds.
