Re: wtb wood for the bed

I will be doing the wood in my bed this summer, I have seen that one of the vendors here has the correct measurments for doing it yourself. I want to say its GMC Paul's

Re: wtb wood for the bed

I am doing mine now and using Douglas fir and it is looking good so far. I used the measurements from GMC Pauls and they are right on and the fit is good.

Re: wtb wood for the bed

I'll be making my own. Just waiting till I get closer to needing it. Then,I'll have to decide which wood to use. Hmmm......I want a floor that ain't too fancy and can still use. Thinking about reducing body color paint down to a stain.

I say go for it if you have access to a table saw, planer (a jointer would be even better) and a router table. It's definitely not like building a piece of fine furniture. Just some basic cuts that require a little planning

Re: wtb wood for the bed

We sell wood but you can make your own. We do most with a table saw. Don't really need a router. Band saw for the wheel house opening. Forstner bit for holes. Its easy and fun to do. Hardest is getting the old stuff out. Bring it over and we can show you and let you do it.

Making your own is fun, I am in the process myself! I'm using Rock Elm, its from a tree that fell in a buddies neighbors place. It dried for a couple years and now its being put to use.I used GMC Pauls for everything.

Re: wtb wood for the bed

I bought some Beatle Kill Blue Pine from a place up the hwy for $45 bucks for 8- 1X8X8, kiln dried boards. Took much longer to sand, seal and varnish than cutting them out. The easiest part for me was cutting them out.

I don't plan on ever using the bed so I went with a pine instead of oak. It is a Colorado truck with Colorado wood.

I used Lacewood. It's not cheap, but it's hard as crap, and looks good. IMO

Re: wtb wood for the bed

very nice beds you two! I want a wood bed, but don't want to live in fear someone will mess it up. I'm going to oil finish some IPE and keep a light duty work truck.
