71 BB cheyenne super SWB, ebay (not mine)

This truck is for sale in my home town. I saw it last week in front of the shop where the pictures where taken. It is a nice truck, very clean, but I don't believe that it is a true cheyenne super, based on the SPID. What do you guys think?

If the SPID is original, it looks like a true BB short fleet, but looks like a custom not a cheyenne super.

Re: 71 BB cheyenne super SWB, ebay (not mine)

This is a very nice truck and I should not be picking on it but.......

* This 1971 is the 1st year of the Cheyenne and the 1st of only 2 years of the 402 cubic inch Big Block engine.........

.......Introduced in 1970, the 402-cubic-inch (6.6 L) was a 396-cubic-inch bored out by 0.030 in (0.76 mm).

If my math is correct, that would be 3 years for the 402 according to his info.

I think the SPID looks original, but it's just not a super. Nice truck though. I'm personally not a fan of "clones". I guess thats what you would call it. 99% of the people out there most likely wouldn't care or even notice for that matter, so in the end I guess it doesn't really matter either way. it's just another sweet Chevy.

Yeah it's not an original super. I almost bought it several years back. Went out there with cash. But realized it was not an original super. Not that big of deal. But it just wasn't as nice in person. As it was in the pics. Test drove it and it had a serious vibration. Couldn't get the dealer to come down to a reasonable price. Had to walk. Glad I did. Not a bad truck. Just not worth the kinda money they were looking to get.

It's a Custom Deluxe and would be ever bit as desireable to me as one. It seems more unusual to find a truck outfitted like this one as a Custom Deluxe than as a Cheyenne or Cheyenne Super. So guys just didn't want carpet in their trucks back then. No headliner? Big deal. When's the last time you looked at yours? Some never cared for fake woodgrain, either. I know I never did back then. It wasn't until I started seeking rarer options once the trucks got older and harder to find that I started to accept it. That, and like the colors,it just marks the era...something they did then that they don't do now.
That is one sweet truck. I just think it would be ever cooler as built. I have a thing for Custom Deluxes (& Super customs) with better options than the average Cheyenne/Cheyenne Super (Sierra/Sierra Grande)

I would love to own that truck, especially after seeing it in person! It is nice. I totally agree with you, I would like it a lot more if it had stayed true to the Custom Deluxe.

The 402's were available in Chevelles and Camaros (as 396) in 70. I take it he is referring to the engine itself, rather than the history of the engine in the truck.

It's interesting the link he posted where the buyer can research option codes is a website that sells SPID reproductions. At least he didn't do that.

It just looked funny they way he listed it.

But actually, A 1970 truck had a 402 too, they just badged them as 8-396 instead of 8-400. So it really was 3 years.

Actually i think 69 was the only year for the 8-396 emblem.

I wonder why they didn't make it even more confusing by making the 71's badged 8-401?
