Whaaaaaat?? Did the General really build this?

I've never seen one, but this ad claims to be for a 2000 3/4ton with a 6liter...and a 5speed manual! Did they actually build these that way?

It would be NV4500 5 speed, RPO MW3. I think the ZF S6-460 6 speed came out in 01.

Re: Whaaaaaat?? Did the General really build this?

From 2000-2005 Chevy 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks with 6.0L had the option of the NV4500 5 speed manual. The 6 speed manual was only available behind the 8.1L big block and the Duramax diesel until GM decided we the people didn't want manual transmissions anymore. Thank the GM dealer for creating the "void" in the market place by only ordering automatics.

Cool. I had seen manuals behind the duramaxes and 8.1s, but never with a 6.0. Wonder how that NV4500 holds up?

They hold up well, Im putting 600 ft lbs through a NV4500HD with no issues.

Re: Whaaaaaat?? Did the General really build this?

The NV4500 is the second most sought after manual trans for off roaders because of its overdrive, ultra low first gear, and brute strength. It is compared alot to the SM465 hd 4spd from early gm trucks. In stock form the only real failure point is the overdrive gear retainer will fail if it is used while hauling heavy loads however the aftermarket has upgrades to correct that issue. The NV4500 can handle 18,000-20,000 lbs gvw. I put one in my 87 3/4 ton in front of a full time four wheel drive transfer case with an engine that has roughly 415lb ft of torque and I have had no issues. That is by far the best thing I have done to my truck. The only drawback is that trans requires special oil to live and it currently is only readily available at any GM and Dodge dealer and runs around $20 a quart. Here is a link with more info for the NV4500. http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/nv4500.htm
