Question 68 sub - Hub Drum Question

I managed to strip a couple of lugs on my 68 Suburbans front right wheel. Do I need a new hub. Is it a hub and drum combo? If so where would I start in finding one? I tried to search the board but search is unavailable. Thanks.

Welcome to the board.
You don't need a new hub, you can remove the old one and hammer out the busted lugs, then go to napa or what ever and get new ones. They just slide in from the back dide and when you torque down the wheel (torque it down real good) it gets pressed into the hole.

Not so much stripped as spinning

I guess I didn't explain very clearly. I turned until the wheel stud was spinning loosely. Loose enough to hand spin. What usually stops the wheel stud from spinning?

The new studs will have a new knurled shaft so they will grab just fine. They might even have something oversized to fit when stripped out like yours are. I would also use a few oversized nuts as a spacer and a lug nut to pull the new studs into the hub. Then you can see that it is fully seated. Hate to have it loosen up and throw your wheel when you least expect it.

Ahhh, i thought you ripped the threads off the studs.
If you were to look at a new one, you'll see the shank has verticle ridges on them. The kinda bite into the hub.
I still think you can just replace the studs. I've done it once for the same reason. I did put some thread locker in there for assurance.
Still holding up 2 years later.

still not fixed

Down at the wheel shop they informed me the hub will not hold a new wheel stud (in two places). They can't find a front hub for this truck. Does anyone here know where can I find one?

You are going to have to cruise the yards, no one that I know of makes replacements.

shayneschuldt, I was talkin to a couple guys at the shop today, and they recomend having the stugs welded on. Nothing drastic, just a small zap on each one.

Or convert the whole shebang from those crappy 7/16" studs to 1/2" studs. They would have to drill out all of the holes in the hubs to accommodate the 1/2 inch studs.

Looks like I'll have to call Hertz and scrounge the remote junk yards. Had a local parts guy search Kansas City with no luck. Oh well, thanks anyway.

It may be easier to post a WTB Hub on the parts board.
