Started in on the drivers side rust rescue regimen last night. Went after the floor and door sill with a grinder w/40 grit flapper wheel. I was amazed at all the filler everywhere. All of the rust areas in the door sill had been covered with filler. The kick panel had been patch together with filler. The vent door in the kick panel had been completely formed in filler. It's still not as bad as I was expecting.

Trimmed up the patch panel and lined out the floor to be cut. Was pretty pooped from the rust exploration so I called it a night.

My plan is to replace the entire kick panels and delete the side vents. I'll be running an AC system so I don't see a need to fix them. I feel my logic is sound. Any opinions on this?

I kinda like my vents sometimes, especially on those nice spring/fall days when you can open them and the wing windows and really let the air in. Prolly would be easier to delete them though...

if you are smoothing your cowl panel...i would say it doesnt matter go ahead and shave them but if you arent i would leave them ...just my 2cents

Someone on the board used the vent hole as a recess to mount his fuse block. It look good, and he no longer needed to be a contortionist to check fuses. Just a thought.

Been busy the last few weeks and am going crazy to get back to working on the truck... A few interior parts came in over the last few days. Just got the Vintage air box of stuff and didnt get a chance to take pics yet.

Lokar cable floor shift
Classic Instruments w/all electronic sending units
Vintage air Evaporator, oval controller, oval vents, and all the goodies.

Waiting for shipment of
Billet Specialties Steering Wheel
Tilt steering column
Custom Leather bucket seats (should be finished and shipped 06/06/11)

I'll finish up the floor this week and get started on my custom dash "hopefully" in the next few weeks.

I have always loved the body lines of these trucks. Flowing, symmetrical, smooth, and sexy. The disappointing area to me has always been the interior. You open the door and you get a chunky bolt in cluster and a glove box you could park a Toyota Prius in. I'm deleting all of this clutter and keeping the interior elegant and simple.

In the pic of what I will be doing the silver "v" shape will be a raised body line. The "v" and instrument cluster will be dead center of the dash. A start button will be below the A/C controller. This dash will be built out of the truck from scratch and I will be 100% satisfied with my work before I cut the old dash out (just below the dash pad) and put this one in.

I'll take a bunch of pics of the trials and tribulations.

Well, since you asked, I will offer up my 2 pennies.

I think the pancaked hood would look great, but you were talking about elegance and smooth lines. I think the 69-72 front end doesn't really fit the bill. A pancaked hood with a phantom grille would look amazing, but once you put headlights in it, they are ruined.

I really liked the Get Shorty grille and hood combo for the CCT build, but once they chromed the bars and added the head lights, it ruined it. (http://www.customclassictrucks.com/t.../photo_01.html)

With all that, I must say the 67-68 front clip hold true to the sleek and beauty these trucks can show. With the dash being completely different with a steady flowing body line, I think the 67-68 clip will prove to be better. (This is why i am changing mine back to a 68 clip)

I'm not saying that a 69-72 front end is horrible, just don't think it will flow right with the you smoothing everything.
