Disc Brake Rear End S10 Frame Swap 1953 Chevy

Looking at buying a rear end from a blazer/s10 it's a 2wd and has 3.42 it's a disc brake rear end..measuring from the rim mounting surfaces, ie the distance your rims will be apart is 54"..will this be a good fit for my '53 Chevy thats in the process of being swapped to an s10 chassis..will I need spacers with this, if so how big of spacer?

Wow, went to your site, nice stuff there. Then I found this:

All Sales Are Final
No Returns
No Refunds
No Exchanges
No Cancellations
20% Restocking Fee's Will Apply If We Choose To Return An Item
You Will Not Be Reimbured For Shipping Items Back
Warranties Expressed Through Manufacturer
Allow 10-15 Business Days For Shipping

Jeez, that's nasty even for internet vendors. I won't be getting involved in any business transactions with you at all.

Re: Disc Brake Rear End S10 Frame Swap 1953 Chevy

for those of you not experienced in this stuff, note this:

"Warranties Expressed Through Manufacturer"

This means that if they sell you a part and it's defect, even out of the box, you're on your own with the manufacturer who may refuse to deal with you as they didn't sell anything to you, only to their dealers. Buyer beware as always. At least the guy put it out in plain sight so potential customers can make informed choices as they see fit.

Re: Disc Brake Rear End S10 Frame Swap 1953 Chevy

AFAIK, about 61" is about as narrow as you can go without going to offset wheels or tubs. I just installed a C4 Vette rear in mine, a '57. it's 62" and there's about 1.25" between the sidewalls and the bed. My bed is about 51" on the outside of the bed sides.

I think you're going to need some pretty good sized tubs to go with a 54".

Re: Disc Brake Rear End S10 Frame Swap 1953 Chevy

The rear end your looking for is a rear item indeed. Chevy made a 54" wide, 30 spline, disc, 3.42 Posi, 10" rear end that uses the 12" differential bearings. Problem is they only came in the 5 speed, high output V6, wide body (not the ZR2), 2 wheel drive truck.... maybe even the Blazer? I think around the years 2000 to 2004? A buddy of mine has 2 of them and one of them is mine! You can tell by looking if you've got the right one because it has a 10" casing with tapered axel shafts at the pumpkin. They're the size of 12" axels at the pumpkin and out about 2" they narrow down to the 10". The have the large disc rotor with an internal shoe parking break.
Supposedly the stoutest stock 10" Chevy ever made, it must be true I read it on the internet.
I've heard of these going for upwards of $1000.

Re: Disc Brake Rear End S10 Frame Swap 1953 Chevy

I have this rear in my '48 with S10 swap. Spacers will be a must. I'm running 8" wheels with very little backspacing and still needed a 2" spacer.

Re: Disc Brake Rear End S10 Frame Swap 1953 Chevy

You should be targeting a 61" rear end. A 2wd S10 isn't going to cut it without spacers. A 4wd rear end is going to be tight without spacers and the right wheel offset. You need a ZR2 4wd to be where you want to be and they aren't common.

A Camaro rear is better for what you are doing unless you want to cut the bed sides and tub it.

Re: Disc Brake Rear End S10 Frame Swap 1953 Chevy

Here is a shot of the s10 swap I am building right now. It has a 1998 4wd s10 blazer disc brake rear end under it. It clears the bedsides with the stock s10 2wd steel wheels and smallish tires. I am tubbing it as you can see from the pic so bigger tires and wheels will fit.

Re: Disc Brake Rear End S10 Frame Swap 1953 Chevy

I just helped a friend do a 49 on a 2wd s10 frame and we had to cut the bed sides for the wheels to clear. I think it would be best to use a 4wd or zr2 axle. Ive got a camaro 8.5 and you can barely see daylight between my bedsides and tires. But I do have some huge tires.

All,

is the AD bed narrower than the TF bed? My TF bed is about 51" outside to outside of the bedsides. this is a short stepside bed.

ZR2 rear seems almost impossible to find without spending a ton...so should I look for a blazer 4x4 disc rear or maybe even a bravada 4x4 disc rear?

Re: Disc Brake Rear End S10 Frame Swap 1953 Chevy

those are 5x5 pattern. standard chevy pattern is 5x4.75. 5x5 is for later 5 lug pickups and big cars like Impalas, Caprices. Is this what you want?
