New Guy, Old Suburban
Hi all, been reading awhile but this is my first post. A few months ago my Dad said he wanted me to have his 71 Suburban, it has been in the family since he bought it in 72. Lot's of great memories ride with this Suburban, I got my DL in 75 it was the party wagon back then!
It's been parked for at least 10 years now, but my Dad made sure to start it up at least once a year. I live in Vegas, I headed up to So. Utah this Saturday morning to get it running, load it up and haul it back, just got back this afternoon! Put a couple gallons of fresh gas in with the old, charged the battery and she started right up Needs quite a bit of work but is in great shape considering. It originally came with a big block 400 but Dad and I built and swapped in a 454 14 years ago, it might have 10k on it. BTW still have the original 400 stored in the barn. Here are some pictures I took with my phone today, forgot to take some of the interior, I'll add them tomorrow. |

Re: New Guy, Old Suburban
Welcome, and awesome to see you are saving the family burb!
Mine has a similar story as well, and the longer I keep it the more I realize I made the right decision to keep and restore her.

What great memories! I wish I still had my folks '71 Blazer that I learned to drive in. What a stupid teenager I was.

Re: New Guy, Old Suburban
She is straight, the rear right back panel was dented in by a horse once, but popped back out. There are a few small dents, the front bumper is not even, but undamaged and no RUST.
It lived here in Vegas most of it's life, moved up the S. Utah about 10 years ago, been in a dry climate it's whole life.

Re: New Guy, Old Suburban
Little bit of elbow grease, and that interior looks like it would run as is.

Re: New Guy, Old Suburban
Thanks all!
Thats good to know Rich, nice to meet you. Dang Pack Rat's After work yesterday I finally got started on cleaning up the Burb. Thought I would start in the engine compartment, then interior, did not make it to the interior, getting the pack rat nests out of the front of the fenders was a nightmare! Need to repair and clean up the wiring, new plug wires/plugs, fuel filter and rebuild the carb. It's running pretty good though, took it around the block which was great, have not drove it since the 70's
