aftermarket hoods

Hey for you guys with aftermarket hoods, have you had problems with fit? I know fenders only fit right 1% of the time right out of the box, but what about the hoods? Thanks

I'm not real thrilled with the fit of my cowl hood either.

I bought mine from Tuckers in Las Vegas. They told me is was a Goodmark. When I got it home I couldn't find the Goodmark name on it anywhere. I called Jerry the owner and he told me it was a Goodmark and thats all he sells. So I don't know what brand it is because I thought Goodmark stamped the name on theirs. Anyway it fits pretty good. If I spend some more time adjusting I could get it good enough.

My Hood is a triplus, it's the same hood as a goodmark. You can guess where I got it. Took me all of 20 minutes to have it on and aligned. Fits better than my original.

All The Same!!!

Goodmark, Triplus, Counterpart are all the same. There is only one factory stamping these...and like any repop part you have to make them fit!!!

Angry Aftermarket hood

I had lots of problems with the goodmark cowl hood, doors and fenders. After spending all that money I ended up buying old doors. I would never buy Goodmark products again. I would have been better off buying beat up Junk at a junk yard and repairing it. Good luck.

I had the same problem as blue4x4. And I would have to say the same thing. I will never waste my time and money on new sheetmetal again.

Cowl Hood

Mine fits like crap. I don't know if it's the hood, the truck or what. I have a Tri Plus hood. I have tried everything but putting it on "Naked". My last resort will be having the frame checked for damage, then installing the parts I have already installed, a 67 radiator support (also a tri plus piece) then measure in a cross pattern from the cowl mounting screws to the screws on the top of the radiator support (to check for squareness) then reinstalling the fenders, grill etc. to see it if it at last will fit. Mine leaves a gap between the bottom of the hood and the top of the grill in the middle at the front. Also there is a gap between the fenders and the hood on the top front. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds a lot like mine. Three body men worked on mine all afternoon and finally gave up. Most don't notice but I do so I know others notice too that know what they are looking at.

Triplus makes Goodmark 67-72 Cowl Hoods. They are just in a Goodmark labeled box.

Shouldn,t Goodmark be stamped on it somewhere?Doesn,t a Goodmark product cost more than Tri Plus?I was under impression that anything that Goodmark sold was licenced to be as close to an original GM product or made from original tooling.

I have noticed in our restorations lately the last 6 67-8 cowlhoods is a little bowed in the center and the passenger door is wider at the rear post on the reproduction parts, the next load should be corrected they tell me. GM has no control over aftermarket parts quality, only the manafacturer controls the quality on GM restoration parts i.e. TRI PLUS.

Cowl Hoods

I am trying to put a 68 front end with the cowl hood on a 71 C10 with a 67 tri plus radiator support. Would I be better off staying with the 71 front end with a Cowl hood for it, are the cowl hoods and radiator supports for 71-72's better as far as fit-up goes? I like the 67-67 a lot, it looks more streamlined to me.

Good or Bad???

Look at this so far. Seven say they are good to great and seven say they are bad to terrible. How is that possible? I have found they are not perfect, but they are very good and really look cool.
One of the problems we are having with repro parts, is the "installers". Plain & simple, some guys can't get them lined up, if they need adjustment. It is not just a bolt on and drive away job.
Good body people are doing very good with these parts but "painters" are complaining. "painters" are specialists in sand & shoot and can't do much body work. Check out your painter and find out if he can do good bodywork or just paint jobs.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I haven't decided yet if I am going to get one. I would be putting it on myself if I did.
