Barn Find 1966 LWB fleetside
My new project. Pulled out of an auction. It has been sitting for the last 20 years. Custom cab, BBW, mostly original paint, 283 with powerglide. All original. Just freed the motor (it was seized) replaced all gas components and ignition components and driving it. Looking to lower it and searching for ideas. I am really leaning toward a porterbuilt stage II kit. I do not want to tub the front or raise the bed. I am planning on running the original steelies with some 205/70r15 thin whitewalls. I am new to this forum and this is my first c10. Just looking for some suggestions. If anyone has pics of a porterbuilt stage II on a 60-66 that would be great.

20 years sitting tell us more...any history at all, and interior pics would be great. Such a great patina.

Re: Barn Find 1966 LWB fleetside
She is believed to have only 70,000 original miles. No rust except the hole behind the front wheels on the front fenders. Truck has always been a NC truck. It had the original owners manual and warranty protect o plate in the glove box. It still has the original wood in the bed and it is pretty solid. These pics are from the day I towed her home and before any cleaning was done.

Nice, very nice! Digging the "Ultra Hi-Tech" audio system! Interior looks very good. How about the cab corners and cab supports?

From what I can see so far there is not any rust on the cab. Just minor surface stuff.

Re: Barn Find 1966 LWB fleetside
It is nice, but it would stay nice if you didnt cut it all up. Needs to be a stock truck. My opinon. I would love to find a truck like that to restore to Stock Condition.

Re: Barn Find 1966 LWB fleetside
You got a winner! It were mine, I would give it a good clean-up and see what it looks like. My guess is it will look great! Survivors like that are rare enough, it would be a shame to blow it all away with mods and paint. But it's your truck, and you need to make yourself happy. Enjoy!

Re: Barn Find 1966 LWB fleetside
$2,200. The truck is not going to be cut up or painted or any of the above. Just a good cleaning and lowered.

Re: Barn Find 1966 LWB fleetside
to the forum and
Awesome truck, looks to be a real survivor. Thanks for posting the photos. Not sure how much experience you have with these trucks but based on your comments maybe a static drop would work best for ya? Lowering springs all around with front drop spindles might get you where you want to be and save you some serious coin. Check out this thread, might be helpful? http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ghlight=static John Last edited by lakeroadster; 06-03-2011 at 12:34 PM. |

Re: Barn Find 1966 LWB fleetside
Static drop was definitely my first thought. I just think I will want more when it is finished and I hate to buy all the stuff for static drop just to take it out and replace all of it with bags. Before I buy anything I am going to heat the springs just to see what it looks like then I will make my final decision on bags vs. static. That pic thread is very helpful though. thanks People may think this is a stupid question but does any one make a drop spindle to use with your stock 6 lug drums. I know the disc coversion isn't bad but I am just wondering.

Re: Barn Find 1966 LWB fleetside
$2200 aint bad for that. I only gave $900 for mine (but that was back in '92) She was alot prettier back then too.

Re: Barn Find 1966 LWB fleetside
Is that factory silver? I don't recall ever seeing a silver truck before. I'm not saying it's wrong, just RARE! Is the SPID sheet on the glove box door still?

Re: Barn Find 1966 LWB fleetside
why not just put front drop spindles on it, then if it has coils in the rear add air bags to adjust the ride height. Later you could do the other porter mod, I think the 2.5" spindles and lowering the rear would look very nice. Kieth

Re: Barn Find 1966 LWB fleetside
paint code on glove box is 553ad. I believe that is silver poly 32537 on ppg's paint chip but if anyone has any more info on that that would be great. Doesnt anyone have pics of a 60-66 with a mild porterbuilt kit?

Re: Barn Find 1966 LWB fleetside
I was wondering the same thing. In 1996 I bought a 64 LWB with drums and found 2.5 dropped spindles for it. bolted right on. Guessing they are extinct now LOL
