My powerplant is here!!!!

well after saving all my extra money i finally got my engine delivered. Its a 454 .030 over, forged bottom end, flat top pistons, 9.25:1 compression, revalved ported and polished 781 heads, and studed. i know the studs are overkill but thats the way it was assembled by the previous owner.

Re: My powerplant is here!!!!

keep us posted I would like to see what they run. take some time in choosing a cam for what you are going to be doing with the (street/strip etc...) truck that's were the power is. I hate not being able to drive mine back and forth to work/weekends slaying mustangs and camaros.

I will definitely take your advice about the cam and keep everyone posted on whats up with the engine. First I want to get the heads flowed so I get the right cam for a hot street/strip truck

Re: My powerplant is here!!!!

Gotta love oval port big blocks! Also, if you're gonna go though the trouble to get the heads flowed and pick a cam, are you getting a custom cam? If so, I will recommend Chris Straub (www.straubtechnologies.com). You can check his work out over on www.chevelles.com in the 'performance' section. He cut me a roller cam for my 468, and really knows his stuff, especially when it comes to street/strip BBC's.

I absolutely am going to get a custom cam. i want to maximize hp and tq and i do feel that an off the shelf cam wont do that. And thanks for the link i will definitely check out his website

Re: My powerplant is here!!!!

Good luck with the build! I have a similar motor for my son's truck. Personally I wouldn't flow the heads or get a custom cam. I think your money could be spent better elsewhere.

Re: My powerplant is here!!!!

Who ended up doing your cam for you? Specs above look like a Comp Cams grind.

As for a hp guess, I'll say 530hp @ 5500 and 550tq @ 4300
