Fresh Paint

Hey all, just wanted to share a few finished pics of my father in law's 01 Z71 we just got finished up. I work at a chevy dealer, and got it painted thru work. I did all the tear down and a little sanding. I also added the chrome handle grips, and GMC side moldings.

I will have to try to find the before pics. He bought the truck new and it now has 154k and runs great. The front end had some minor damaged a few years back and the clear had started to peel on the hood and tops of fenders. The exposed paint got dull and it had some dents and dings. Worst two spots were where someone hit just behind rr wheel and a small impact on right side doors. Got the dents fixed and fresh factor Indigo Blue Metallic sprayed top to bottom.

Enjoy

Re: Fresh Paint

Looks great, but should have painted the handles, bumper trim, grille, and mirrors in with it while getting painted. My father in law has the same color on his 2002 and it is peeling the clear off the hood pretty badly as well.

Re: Fresh Paint

Nice job! I like the added GMC side molding. It makes the color stand out with just that little bit of chrome.

I had planned to paint the handles and grille, but my body shop manager said the rough texture on those items would be hard to paint right. I would think it is doable. But did not want to risk it.

He said you can either use adheasion promoter and hope the paint sticks long term or sand the rought texture to help paint stick, but run the risk of seeing the sanding scratches once the clear goes on.

If it had been my truck I would prob have tried the grille and got the painted/paint to match handles.

In fact on my own 06 2wd I got the silver escalade handles and had em painted to match.

Re: Fresh Paint

Looks sharp; I love that color on those trucks. And I once bought a 72 from a guy in Olive Branch -- he lived on a street that looked an awful lot like that. Your father-in-law isn't a home builder by any chance, is he?
