What service manuals do you guys use?

I misplaced my old service manual for my 1970 c-10. Now I'm looking to buy a new one. I was wondering which manuals everybody else uses? I was thinking about picking up this one from Autozone.

Its the Haynes - Chevrolet Full-size Pick-ups for 1967-1987 and Blazer, Jimmy, and Suburban for 1967-1991

Is this one anygood? The one I had was specific to my year. Would this one still be good being that it covers 67-87? Anybody have this one?

Any input is appreciated!

The 67-87 is mostly 73+ I think (I have one) its nice better than nothing...it has sections for 67 72.

Helm Books for everything I drive. There are service websites, too, but I haven't needed one yet. They are good for late model stuff.

Re: What service manuals do you guys use?

I bought the assembly manual from a swap meet, here in Arkansas. My '69 Shop Manual is a GM book that I bought at a swap meet in Zephyrhills, FL. Then, I have a Truck Data Sales book that I bought from a member, who lived in Phoenix.

But, this site and the people who are here are the best resource that you can ask for. Sure, the printed word is good, but personal experiences that are shared are priceless. Then, they add pictures to their posts and life is good!

Re: What service manuals do you guys use?

I have the Haynes manual, it's not the best for a 67 but ok for basic information.

I have the Haynes you are talking about. Its a decent reference, but the info in it is very basic.

Re: What service manuals do you guys use?

I prefer Chilton to Haynes, but don't have one for my suburban yet. Chilton seemed a little more well written/easier to understand.

Re: What service manuals do you guys use?

I have both the '68 chassis service manual and chassis overhaul manual. I assume they were dealer books at one time, like brand new bought them at a swap meet for 12.50 a piece .

Never really needed another manual besides this forum.

I have the factory service manual and assembly manual.

The Haynes manual sucks IMO. I'd return it if I could.

Try the Helm Book and you'll toss either one of those in the garbage.

I use:
  • the Factory Chevrolet Truck Service Manual,
  • the Lakeroadster Memory Manual,
  • and the good folks on this website.
So far so good

Re: What service manuals do you guys use?

I have a Chilton's, which is ok, but I use a factory chassis service manual for 1970 most of the time. As mentioned several times already, this forum is better than any manual out there.

Agreed. Factory service and build manuals are the ONLY way to go for hard copy reference and in combination with this forum you have all you need.

Do the Factory service and build manuals include any wiring diagrams?

Re: What service manuals do you guys use?

yes factory service manuals have wiring diag also torque values of about everything

all the others to me are good general knowledge(a little bit about every vehicle but not alot about anything) but not a good choice over factory service manuals

Re: What service manuals do you guys use?

Factory manuals only. Haynes is better than Chilton, but Factory is far better than both.
