Anybody used a shipper for big items before?

I need a LWB bed and two doors shipped from the SLC, Utah area. I'm thinking about contacting a shipper to do it but have NO experience with that. Can anybody suggest some things or contacts? Thanks

Well I sold a 12 bolt posi out of a 67 Camaro to a guy across the country. It seems like I contacted Yellow Freight. One thing that is cool is it seems that they give a pretty decent discount on your first shipment, hoping to get repeat business. They will give you an option of picking it up at their terminal for less money or having it delivered to your door for a lot more.

I have to ask.......a LWB and 2 doors? I can get that just about anyday on CL. What gives that you would pay so much in shipping for common items? I'm sure there is a reason. Just realize that it will be hundreds of dollars.

Don, we used to have a transportation area here but no more.
Maybe you can go to your regonal area and look for someone
that's going the right way with a trailer.

There are also sites online where truckers bid for trips such as
this. I don't have a link but I do know they are out there.

I checked into having a disassembled short Stepside bed on a pallet shipped from Texas to Maryland back in '07 and it was running around $800 with those I checked with. I remember ABF and Yellow were among those I contacted. It's the space that gets you. Anything small enough,I ship through Greyhound. Beds are just out of the question for me.

I would try and see if someone on the board is heading your way. Its summer time and people are on the move. I also had a friend use uship.com for a couple large items before and he said it was pretty easy and cost effective. Not sure about a lwb bed though.

We used to use Uship but lately they seem to bombard you with emails and calls from brokers. Its gone down hill in my opinion. Seems like the small guys don't bid much anymore. They used to be real good. I think it still works but be prepared for the emails

You need to use an LTL (less than truckload) shipper, like ABF (for instance). They have options like door-to-door, or you can take it to their terminal and your purchaser can pick it up at their terminal and save some $$.

Or, you might check with some "Hot Shot" haulers...those are the guys with the 1-ton trucks pulling the flatbed trailers that go local, regional and cross-country.

It won't be cheap. Try ABF or FedEx Freight. You might also stop at a truck stop somewhere and try to find someone coming back empty that may want a little extra cash.

I had a decent experience on u-ship a few months ago. got a quote of 600 to ship my complete short bed including him loading and unloading it. Smaller guy on u-ship with 100% rating (over 120 ratings) Ended up selling locally after the guy passed on it. With the long bed the doors could be thrown in the back with some packaging for the trip fairly easily so basically it would just be the bed to them....

I do agree with Mike that you will get a bunch of soliciting emails from them and the bigger shippers will all send quotes (in the 1200-2K range) but I can delete them easily enough

The bed is rust free and the floor is very clean. We don't come up with anything like that around here. Doors were just available and rust free and I need them also from the same guy. Just checking.

Never even thought about that. We don't have salt on the roads or humidity in the air where I live. Everything is bone dry out here. It all makes sense now.
