Re: Factory A/C compressor

i live in the desert where the heat is in triple digits and run my a/c every day. the longest i have ever had an a/6 last is about 6 months. i have run an a/10 every day for two years and zero problems, using r-134.

Re: Factory A/C compressor

UPDATE

Truck now has working A/C.

I purchased a remanufactured compressor and had the local shop install it, a POA valve and a dryer. All went well.

The only small issue is the clutch on the compressor. The shop wondered if it needed to be shimed. Anybody ever shimed their AC compressor clutch? When the shop first tried it the clutch made some noise when the clutch was not engaged, making them think that it needed to be shimed further apart. It seems to have worn it nicely though.

Re: Factory A/C compressor

if shims are required, they are easily added to the back of the compressor similar to shimming a starter. glad to hear it worked out!

on a side note, i came across an original A/6 comp the other day at pick n pull. mint shape, not locked up, and paid 25 for it. based on others' posts in the thread, i am going to see how it works out.

Re: Factory A/C compressor

Not hot here. -2 C (About 28 f) for lows over the weekend and highs around 15 C (55f). Last week we were + 27 on Wednesday and then a big cold front came through and on Friday the high was +5 C.

Either way I have heat and I have air.........

They are brand new units, work more efficiently than the original A/6 AND they bolt right up to the factory brackets. They are pricey at $350 plus shipping, but they work and will not leak. I was very pleased with mine.

Do you not already have a condensor? Is it missing? You can get a factory replacement from any of the major vendors (LMC, Brothers, etc)
Is the Pro6ten compressor still available...? Going to the Compressor page then clicking on the GM Replacement Pro6Ten compressor shows this~

http://www.oldairproducts.com/catalo...120132081.html

My factory A/C compressor just started to spew a fine spray of oil all over the inside of the hood and engine bay and I'd like to replace it with the Pro6ten.

Just not sure if they're still available...

Re: Factory A/C compressor

Give Old Air a call. They do have them, the website is just messed up.

Re: Factory A/C compressor

Thanks ledzepp. I guess it's always best to call direct.

So you swear by these over other 'oem replacement' type sanden style compressors, huh?

Re: Factory A/C compressor

I have never heard a complaint about a Sanden compressor....but they do not bolt up to the factory brackets or factory hoses. If you do a google search on the pro6ten, you will find nothing but good reviews on them.

Re: Factory A/C compressor

I recently picked up a brand New A6 from NAPA after going through 3 reman compressors from O'Riellys, they were the 4 seasons brand. Every one leaked from the front seal. I got fed up and went to NAPA to get the "good stuff". The Napa compressor was brand new and under 400 bucks and fixed my leaks, plus I'm running 134A in it with a recalibrated POA valve. You can find them on NAPA's website. I had a buddy of mine use a reman AC Delco compressor he picked up at a bumper to Bumper parts store, no complaints this was a good unit, it's been on his truck for 8 or 9 years. I didn't want to chance it and went for the new compressor.
