Re: Rods 57
It looks like you used the stock camaro trans crossmember. Do you have any pics were you mounted it to the frame? And it looks like you moved the motor mounts rearward? How much?

Re: Rods 57
Is the "the local guy from Idaho " that does the front clip over in Kuna??
I talked to somebody at a swap meet a while back about it and that looked like it works really well. My uncle is getting ready to combine a '58 3/4 ton cab to a '56 1/2 ton frame with a '57 box. He had plans to go rack and pinion , but has found a Camero Z-28 front clip on CL so is now going that route. I still have 77 nova front clip, that I was told, would work also. If anybody local wants it , My wife would be excited to see it leave the premises

Jay is a good guy, I've gotten parts from him over the years.

Re: Rods 57
I decided to use a firewall mounted master cylinder so I used the stock brake pedal mount out of the same 78 camero in the truck. here are the mount holes.
I didn't like it.....so I made some mods to the firewall, cut and drilled the studs so the bolts would reverse and look better and got a different booster that is smaller and fits nicer. I had to move the hole for the booster down and I cut out part of one of the ribs and made the end look different. |

Re: Rods 57
So at some point this cab was laid on its back, hard and it tweaked it. in order to get the doors to close I used a small bottle jack in the door frames. It split the drip rails and i had to fix-um, but I didn't like the way they curved in do I made them straighter than original.

Re: Rods 57
Interested in how you jacked the cab back into place. How was door aligned prior to jacking? And from what point on cab did you push from?

Re: Rods 57
I used the point where the striker plate bolts on for one end and the front post for the other point. I needed to move it about 1/2 inch to get the door to close.

Re: Rods 57
Did some painting on the underside and behind the fenders, used bed-liner first then painted it.
when i put in the cab corners i added some bracing to make it stronger. |

Re: Rods 57
That looks good Rod. I like the idea of the bracing on the corners.

Re: Rods 57
Thanks Kim, I saw it in a magazine from 02 and i kept it around for the idea. Every time I look at the bed you built it makes me want to start cutting up what i have, the tilt on the rear is just right.

Re: Rods 57
Ok so i took the paint off of the fenders and found a nasty surprise...
But i thought to myself, "what would Bam do..." and i got some patches cause I wanted it to be a 55 instead of a 57 anyway. |

Re: Rods 57
So I bolted the fender on the truck, bolted the inner fender to it and made sure all of the bolts were dead center in the holes. Took a 1" role of blue tape and laid a strip from the bolt hole past the damage and let it lay down the side. Did the same to the patch fender as well. Here they are after the two were bolted together on the truck.
Here is the backside of the welds after I connected the dots |
