trans advice please

Hi guys, could anyone advise us on a little problem we have. We have a 1979 350 4x4 blazer motor and auto gearbox fresh out of a wreck, we are installing it into a project, but only need 2wd. Can we simply remove transfer box and install a different tail section or would it be easier to go get a 2wd box, and which box would have a better final gear ratio. We will be using an axle from a BMW with a diff ratio of 3.5:1, (16'' wheels )any ideas of what revs we will be pulling at 80 >100 mph Regards c10rookie

The output shaft on a 4x4 is shorter than the two wheel drive transmission. It will be easier just to obtain a 2 wd transmission.

Good 4x4 transmissions are usually more desirable than 2 wd
ones, so you might be able to make a trade.

All TH350s have the same gear ratios and all are 1:1 in high gear, as are all other non O/D trannies, manual and automatic.

If you want to use your 4WD TH350 in a 2WD application, you will have to find a 2WD tailhousing for the tranny. I believe that you will also have to swap the output shaft in the tranny, but I am not 100% sure about that. If you do have to swap output shafts, it requires complete disassembly of the tranny to do it since all of the internal parts go in from the front of the tranny.

You might be better off to find a 2WD tranny and sell your 4WD stuff to someone who can use it.
