Re: wiring harness

American Autowire is plug and play, identical to OEM in every way. Made in USA.

Re: wiring harness

So is M&H. I have their harnesses under the hood of my 1972. Cporrect factory style conections and plug ins. Also factory correct wire wrap, mounting points, and plastic wire channels.

Good quality stuff.

Wes at Classic Heartbeat (site vendor) has them.

Re: wiring harness

I used e-z wiring, the wire harness was great, good quality wires and it was labeled real well. however their instructions sucked. I found myself refering back to the assembly manual but mostly doing google searches to answer most of questions.

Re: wiring harness

Both M&H and American Autowire are priced as per each harness. There are variable like are you going to use an internaly regulated alternator or HEI? Long bed or short bed? Do you have door pins? Complete stem to stern harnesses will run from $600.00 up. WES

Re: wiring harness

the M&H harness is as a New Fuse block with More updates and the newer Small fuses. I like the M&H do to you have all new Factory Plugs. Any other harness You Get extra wire that means you got to cut splice sadder and you have to use your old plugs or you have to go out and buy them. Most of the I did it kits don't have it.I bought the complete set up for my 1965 3/4 ton and my 1972 3/4 ton trucks Now if you have a 1967--70 chevy truck and like having a side marker in the front lens that Blinks while the turn single is on Buy the 1972 chevy truck harness and get the one with the HEI set up Always buy the last modal year of the production year do to it has all the Latest Up dates

Its like the 700R4 they came out in car's in 1980 in the GM camaro's and Firebirds well the first 700R4 had many bugs the good 700R4 are the 1987--93 before the computer came out the 1980--1993 where all cable the 1993 is the one to have but the first year that was good with the new check balls in the trans and better oiling was in the corvettes and the trucks in 1987

So going to the last Year production you get the better parts and all the new Updates with Wire harness trans Motor Rear end brakes

see most of you run disc brakes on your 1950--70 chevy trucks 1971-72 where the almost last year of production.

A lot of people have asked this about the 1973 and up front A frames are they the same NO the 1973 and up have Press in Bushing the 1963--72 1/2 and 3/4 and 1 ton had screw in bushing witch makes it easyer for you to work on and i seem to do less maintenance with the 1963--72 front ends Buy the MOOG bushing Buy every thing MOOG if Possible.

So all i can say Keep it factory or close to it Of you will be running around every where to find Boosters Brakes wire harness

Re: wiring harness

I have a Painless Wiring setup from Summit. 18 circuit for our trucks, MULTIPLE additional circuits (electric fans, fuel pump, power windows/locks) has virtually all the stock connectors with it. Labeled every foot as to where it originates AND goes to. Easy to understand instructions. Entire harness was around 350 I believe. Most important thing IMHO is to solder everything in a wiring harness ( just my unsolicited advice while we are on the subject) Good luck, any new wiring almost is better than 40 year old stuff

I also have the painless 18 circuit, If you are going to be running extras I would suggest this. Also solder and heat shrink all connections.

Re: wiring harness

It came with almost all. I think that the only one that I had to use from old harness was to the power brakes. It's a brown wire that goes to proportioning valve. I just cut the old connector off and then solder it on new wire. If u do get that one and have any questions just post them up and one of us who have used it will be happy try to answer them.

First 700R4 was 1982 Corvette only. In 1983 it made it to everything else.

I too would stay with a factory type harness unless it is a heavily modified vehicle with few original components. Painless harness is OK, but it will only connect directly to turn signals, headlights, and maybe ignition-everything else you have to put your own ends on. You can crimp on ends, but in a real outdoor application they won't last long and then you will be back to troubleshooting. Or you can buy type 56 connectors and solder and re-use the plugs. But are you really saving anything? For most applications, buy a new factory type harness, plug it in, and forget about it for the next 40 years IMHO.

Re: wiring harness

Hmm are u talking about a universal harness? The direct fit is really close. It is possible that I have forgot about a few plugs (it has been 7 years since I have done truck) but no two trucks are alike and some soldering will most certainly be necessary in virtually any truck. Even in South Texas heat, humidity and rain (lots of it) have not had any problems yet that was related to this harness. And can pressure wash under hood without having any of those problems that some trucks have when washed. As long as you know how to solder right and heat shrink and dielectric grease everything you should have no problems. (remember to check resistance on all your wires AFTER you are done). Also tug on your joints firmly to find a crappy job before you heat shrink it, if it's really firm at this point coat joint with dielectric grease and heat shrink then. I'm not the best electrician or anything but this is what has worked well for me for years on trucks, construction equipment and Harleys.
