So of course during this "bake" session my alternator craps out but.....
Ok so of course the alternator craps out during the devil's visit to the east coast. But here's the deal. I have a 1999 Z71 old body style with every option they had. But the alternator was only 105 AMP.
I don't get it, my 94 Camaro had a 140 AMP unit. Why is this one so low??? Scratch that, probably to save money. So my wholesaler tells me the Z71 had a 124 AMP option and he could even get me a 140 AMP unit. I checked the 124 AMP unit and it should fit with no problem. So I took it and will change it out tomorrow. I'll be making a correction to this post if the 124 doesn't fit. For those that are curious I checked the low reading voltage gage inside and confirmed the battery was only getting 12.8 volts with AC and (self installed) electric cooling fans running. We all know the battery puts out 12.6 so unless you are getting 14 volts at the battery, there is a problem of some sort. |
