1972 C-10 Stepped Headers

i just got all my parts ordered from Stahl Headers today. I'm building a Set of 1 3/4" to 1 7/8" to a 3" collector stepped long tube headers for my 72 blown 383" sbc prostreet build. I've got the dope on how long my steps need to be from Stahl. these should work very well on the street as well as the track according to stahl. has anyone built a set of these for our trucks? i've built many sets of headers over the years but not stepped. this will be interesting for sure. pics to come.

Re: 1972 C-10 Stepped Headers

about 375.00
heres what i bought

2 header flanges sq 6 bolt sbc

4 u bends 4"R 8" legs 1 3/4 dia

1 box of bend mistakes 1 7/8"

2 collectors w/ stars

the box of bends is enough to build a set of long 42" headers alone. i used to work in a chassis shop for 8 years and i never not had enough tubing from Stahl.

If you were closer I might get you to build a set for my new 548.

Re: 1972 C-10 Stepped Headers

Didn't it include the adapter flange for the stahl pattern. Here's the Headman weld up 1-7/8" kit I bought from slummit for $278, Has the adapter flange to go from standard port to the spread port (stahl) patern.

After me screwing with it for 2 weeks, and NOT getting 2 tubes finished like I wanted I turned it over to a chassis builder I race with. The $500 I paid him, and the $250 for coating was worth every penny!!! I will never try that again!!!!

turned out nice tho...

My hat is off to you for the knack of being able to design / construct your own headers. I learned quickly it's surely not my thing!!!

Re: 1972 C-10 Stepped Headers

Kevin, if i were closer i'd build you a killer set! i built a set for my neighbor last season.
2 1/4" primaries 4" collectors. 89 mustang 601 cu in motor set back 4" it was very tight our trucks are a breeze compaired to that.

Marv, your headers turned out sweet! I'm not using adapter flanges for the 7 hole Stahl Pattern. 1 3/4" is the largest primary tube that you can use with the standard 6 bolt pattern.i did the stepped design because it's primarily a street truck and it will make better power down low without suffering on the top end from too small header tubes. Making headers are a pain in the butt and takes a lot of imagination. I was fortunate to learn from an old pro. i got a long way to go before i'm building headers.
Stahl headers i learned are a mom and pop shop, and are almost ready to retire so i got mine while the gettin was still good.
