Re: Hate this shtuff
Sounds like an air pocket in the motor; prevents the coolant from circulating properly. Raise the front end high as possible and run the motor till it heats up, be careful though; once the thermostat opens and that air heads out it'll push a ton of HOT antifreeze out as well! I've had to do this a couple times.

Re: Hate this shtuff
Remove the thermostat and Drill a tiny hole in it to allow trapped air to escape and allow the coolant to contact the thermostat and open it.

Re: Hate this shtuff
can b lots of things/wrong direction water pump/bad or incorrectly installed thermostat/collapsed lower radiator hose/ a leaky connection not enough coolant/incorrectly installed intake or head gaskets/ bad timing adjustment/rad fan not working properly
those are all fairly common problems

Plus, rebuilt engines running a bit hotter than ones that are broken because of all the surfaces that are establishing a wear pattern. If you have an EGT sensor, you can really tell when the rings seat themselves. The EGT temp will drop like a rock.

Re: Hate this shtuff
1st thing I would do is change the thermostat.

Re: Hate this shtuff
did it over heat and blow the hose, or are you assuming it overheated before the hose popped?

Longhornman was basically stating that if you didn't notice the overheat before the hose popped... there might be other damage. Gary

Re: Hate this shtuff
His engine may well be overheating, but it shouldn't blow a hose (especially a new one) because of the pressure relief on the radiator cap, which no one has mentioned yet. Try a new stat & rad cap, and make sure you get all the air burped out of the cooling system.
