Re: Vintage picture thread
Here I am at 6 with my Grandpa's 1970 GMC and one of our ranch helpers. 44 years later and I just brought the truck home to get her going again. Past and present.

Re: Vintage picture thread
That's really cool to see. Sometimes it's hard to imagine that these old trucks had a whole lifetime of use before they ended up with you if you don't know their history. That's the case with my truck.

Re: Vintage picture thread
That's the back yard at Chevrolet Flint Assembly during the 1979 model year. Line 1 was pickups at 60 jobs/hour; Line 2 was Blazer/Suburban at 36 jobs/hour for a combined total of almost a quarter million vehicles per year.
I told the story one time about how vehicles would get lost out there, sometimes to the point that we would re-build a new vehicle with the same content and ship it in place of the original. The lost ones usually turn up at model changeover when production ceases and the repair backlog gets worked down. I think that photo demonstrates how that might happen. Here are the rest of the photos taken during that same shoot: http://www.73-87.com/7387info/Assembly%20Line.htm K

Re: Vintage picture thread
How about the 1980 model year when the economy tanked? I assume a lot lines were shut down. IMO, Chevy trucks were never the same since then, new era was all bout computers, aerodynamics and lightweight components.

Through no fault (or planning) of our own we rode a wave of prosperity and growth up through the early 2000's. My theory is that as passenger cars got physically smaller (and less capable/durable) trucks and truck wagons moved in to fill the void. Profitable truck products bankrolled all of GM up until the unpleasantness of 2008. K

Re: Vintage picture thread
From around 1990. My dad's 71 still had the original rockers. My dad wasn't a car show kind of guy, but my mother was, and she won a trophy at every show she entered.
BTW, he sold this truck in 1995 for $8,250. I still don't know why I didn't buy it.

Re: Vintage picture thread
Found these on my Grand Father's slides. Most are in Mexico where my Dad, Uncles and Pappy traveled to frequently.....1973-1976. Fairly safe in those days! Dad's truck is a 1972 K10 shorty with a 4 speed. I still have it and will start restoring it soon.

Re: Vintage picture thread
He did indeed.....some pos stole that winch from him in the mid 80's when he had it parked at his place of work for a few days. Unfortunately that bumper met it's demise against two elk one year as well....I'd like to replace both at some point.
