New 66 LWB Project

Picked up a new victim this morning. 1966 long bed custom with a cracked 250 straight 6 and a turbo 350. Definitley in desperate need of some TLC... First truck in this series I've owned and also my first 2wd project, so it'll be a nice challenge and a heck of a learning experience.

Teardown is under way. Had plenty of help. Even the neighbors kids joined the fray... My daughter is really getting into this one.

Welcome to the forum

I agree, looks like a decent truck to work with.

Re: New 66 LWB Project

Have to get an engine in it first. Want to get a stroker under the hood mated to auto w/od. Probably build up a 383, 350 blocks are easy to come by around here. Gonna try to make a reliable street/hot rod out of it. I was looking for a driver, but just couldn't pass this one up for the price. Only gave $775 for it and it was just across town. I'm giving my wife my current truck because her lease is almost up and I have a work truck, so I'm just looking for a weekend ride.

Re: New 66 LWB Project

Picked up a 350 block and crank yesterday from Troy. Got her ready to go to the machine shop. Drop it off tomorrow hopefully. I started a thread called "New 357 Specs" in the Engine and Drivetrain forum if you guys have any suggestions. I'm not going to build a stroker since I picked up a good free crank...

Re: New 66 LWB Project

Ready to pull the s6 out next weekend. Still waiting to get my block and crank back from the machine shop. They've been really back logged. Did get the new/old compressor running this weekend. Got a new 5hp motor strapped on, new belts, and an oil change and she's working like a champ! Definitely more compressor than I'll ever need Need to find a spray gun and get the firewall done before the new motor goes in...

Re: New 66 LWB Project

Boy I let this thread die... Have to get some pics up tomorrow. Got the old six out and slapped a running six back in it. Got the power steering fabbed back up to the new six for now. Brackets were all different. Kinda a pain in the butt. Donor engine was a lot newer. Don't know what year, but at least it'll run. Going to have to come up with a different throttle linkage. This carb sits sideways and is nothing like the original...
