Starting Build
I need some opinions, I'm starting a build on a 72 C20 in the next few weeks, and and trying to figure out where to start.
I've found a 3/4 ton to 1/2 ton C10 kit from Early Classics, that will take the 8 lug discs and convert them to 5 lug, as well as drop it by 3.5 inches, but I'm stuck on the rear. What's the best option for the rear, just getting some 8 lug rims, or figuring out how to swap the rear to 5 lug? I don't terribly mind just putting on 8 lug rims, they just have to match the front 5 lugs. Aside from that, both ECE and CCP told me that I would need to swap the rear end with a 5 lug 1/2 ton. I really don't want to do that, but if it's my only option, whats the best way to get one? I really don't want to go pull something out of a graveyard. I don't mind buying something new from somewhere, I just don't know what to look for, specs etc. |

Re: Starting Build
I guess my question would be if you are thinking of keeping the rear 8 lug, why not keep the whole truck 3/4 ton?
Matching rims would be a bugger, not to mention you couldn't rotate them, and would need 2 spare tires.

Re: Starting Build
I'm worried that the lowering components for the front may not be compatible with the 3/4 ton parts, the drop spindles etc.
Actually, my buddy pointed out a 71 5 lug rear for leaf springs a couple miles north of me for 150, so I'm going to suck it up and go grab it. Last edited by racerx8413; 06-01-2011 at 01:20 PM. |

Re: Starting Build
I decided to scrap the idea of getting rid of the 8 lug wheels.
The front's already been dropped, although I'm not sure how it was done (bought it that way) and the back is up a little higher. Overall, it's the stance I want, So I figure the least expensive route is to just find some good looking 8 lugs, and replace all the bushings up front. I'll be pulling the motor this weekend, will tart posting some pics as I go. |

Re: Starting Build
Updated thread, took most of the body apart, minus the cab.
![]() On the way to the shop, They're replacing the left side cab support, inner and outer rocker, cab corner, floorpan, and the right side corner, with a couple patches. Shaving the gas filler hole, and shortening the frame for shortbed. I'm having trouble deciding if I want them to remove the drip rail, I'm thinking of just leaving it. |

Re: Starting Build
Are there any options for replacing the crossmember with a c10 crossmember? Not salvage parts, but new?
