blazer tank ? for guy's that have done it

Got the tank installed 50% way but wanna come up with a better idea then the 2 hooks they give you. So what did you do/use to hold the straps/tank in place? Thanks in advance guys Brandon

Throw the hooks away and use standard stainless bolts. Because the straps will not bolt tight to the frame cut a spacer out of stainless tubing to slide over the bolt and place between the strap and the frame so you can tighten the bolt up tight to something. Works good and looks good.

Good idea got a picture? what I am curious about is how do I get tank down if ever need to with bed on truck? Thinking before jumoing with to many things in my head right now. Brandon

I just used long bolts with nuts and flat washers on both sides of the strap. Bill

I tossed the j-bolts too and used the holes that were already in the frame and these aluminum straps to spread the weight on the flange pictured here:

probably not the correct way but i drilled holes and beat a long carriage bolt through them with a piece of pipe nipple to give it extra strengthand act as a spacer. they come down as far as the j-bolts did and this way if i need to drop my tank i can because the bolt won't spin and only need 1 wrench (i used a deep well socket) to do the job. the other side however is snugged up right against the frame with shorter carriage bolts.

I installed mine on a 66 gmc, we decided to weld nuts inside the frame flange so that we could easily remove the tank and easily re install it. then we did the straps front to back.

We did not like the angled filler neck so we changed that to just flat :

Here's a pics. You can drop it out with some fancy wrench work or tacking the nuts to the inside rail would be the easiest answer.

In another thread here, it was said that you do not want to solidly mount the tank to the frame. In the event of frame flexing a solid mounted tank can rupture or split at the seams.

The straps and j hooks allow some give an flex in the mounts of the tank allowing the tank to move with the frame.

As long as its not welded solid to the frame or the straps aren't up tight to the frame it would be considered flexible given the nature of the straps.
