216 to 235 swap

Hello,

I am new to this side of the site. I have someone asking for help swapping out a 216 and installing a 235.

My question is whether it is a straight bolt in swap, or are things like motor mounts, linkages, flywheels, etc. different?

Thanks in advance.

Re: 216 to 235 swap

Its almost a direct swap but there are some important parts that needs to be used from the 216 and the 235 needs to have the proper front plate for the engine mount. I would suggest you go over to stovebolt.com and ask there and also go to http://www.patricksantiquecars.com/ for a list of parts you need.

Re: 216 to 235 swap

You will probably need to do what is called the "water pump conversion". The 235 pump is too long and you cant get it all in the space allowed without hitting the radiator.

Re: 216 to 235 swap

www.stovebolt.com is good for original questions. They arent so big on hot rodding over there, but for 216/235 type stuff they are good.

You can also hack up the radiator surround to move it forwared like they did in my truck to put a 235 in...
