71 Stepside help - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'd like to lay frame with my 71 stepside and I was hoping to do it with 22"s. I was told that the stepside fenders wont allow me to do this. Is this true? If so, what are my choices? Appreciate all the help I can get.

Welcome to the board. Never seen any lowered steps but I'm not really into that. Don't have any info, but here's a bump for you.

It's all about using a tape measure. Measure from the bottom of your frame to the ground. Say that number is 10 inches (just an example) Now measure from the top of your rear tire to the top of the inside of the rear step fender. If you have 10 inches it should work. Just remember most 22" tires are 29 to 30 inches tall. (some taller depending on the size you use) Running 22's on the rear will require a big step notch. Up front will require a Z'd frame or an aftermarket crossmember like the Porterbuilt's Dropmember. Good luck.

Measuring would be a good start. I feel stupid now. I've been in contact with Nate at Porterbuilt and he's working on a package deal, which includes the dropmember, for me to lay frame.
