Photos of Original Stereo???

Trying to decide what kind of stereo to buy for the truck. A picture of an original 1970 stereo would help a lot. When i bought my truck It had no radio, why I don't know but there is a hole in the dash there.

I am not in a rush to start working on the interior but Brothers was having a sale on their stereos and though it might be a good time to pick one up:

These trucks didn't have stereo... As far as I know, very few vehicles had it and even fewer stations transmitted stereo signals. Some trucks came with an AM/FM radio but it wasn't stereo.

If your radio opening is intact (hasn't been cut up) you can google or search 67-72 truck radios to get some vendors that sell specifically for our trucks.

Poor choice of words on my part. I am looking for pictures of the stock radios installed.. The original radio slot is not chopped up on mine, and i would like to have that stock look once its all done. I just haven't seen what the originals look like to compare them to the new ones they are making.

Actually, it just shows our difference in age. For the last 20-30 years most vehicles radios have been stereo.

As soon as I saw his post I thought the same thing. Well of course radio means stereo, o wait, definitely not in these 40yr old trucks.

I was debating not buying a new one, and I thought i would go check the old one and see what it was like, and to my surprise it was not there. The restoration hasn't yet gotten to the interior.

Here's a AM/FM from a restored 72 . . . and the reproduction I bought for the restoration of my 70.

A few people have even said that the AM/FM was available at the end of 1970.

I find it strange that it was offered in the trucks much later than in the cars. Guess they figure FM signal couldn't make it clear out to the farm.

Actually, you're right. There wasn't much need for radio out in the farm but FM stations were notoriously weak compared to todays signal power. Also, there weren't a lot of FM stations and the antennas were primarily located in the larger cities.

get an am/fm 8 track and get an 8 track to catt converter and wire it for an i pod,(as they drop into the catt hole after you remove the spindles...

Here is my stock 1 installed and the "new" 1 that will be going in, once I get around to it. My father gave it to me out of a van we had in the early 80's.

Good point but remember...the 67-72 trucks was the era that our Trucks could be optioned with car like features such as: AC, AM-FM radio, 8 Track Player, Cruise Control, Buckets, etc. Before the 67 models most of these features were not available for our trucks.

If it's a D/D then cut the dash and put some good tunes in it. It's worth it beleive me. My new unit is the greatest.
I love the sd card and USB on it.

I'd go crazy with out it driving.
Putting the radio is no differant than putting a lowering kit on one.

The Radio I ordered from brothers is on back order.. probably because its on sale like $80 off. I will take some pictures of it "mocked up" once I get it, otherwise its going to be several months before the interior is going to get finished. the radio is supposed to have a AUX port so there will probably be XM or a ipod in there at all times with just a stock"ish" looking radio.

Came across this a few years ago. I used a 72 am/fm radio and a 68 buick amplifier and had a stereo shop work there magic. I would like to think that if the factory would have come with a factory stereo system this is what it would look like. The red light in the slider bar track lights when you pick up a stereo station. this way you can eliminate the silver box amp for the 8 track and run 3 speakers and hide the buick amp behind the dash.
