A Few Pics of my Grandpas 68 C 10

Updated: Completed Truck Pics at end (Mar 28'2012)

Been working on the old C 10 for a few months now. It was my great grandpas and my grandpa drove it most of my life until he gave it to me. First car I ever drove at around 10 - 12 years old when I would go to the landfill with him - he would let me drive it on the dirt road and even out the gate down the highway once. It sat at my parents the last 12 years or so deteriorating. So far the 250 straight 6 has been rebuilt, converted to 5 lug with power disk brakes, HEI, relocated gas tank to frame, smoothed cowl (thanks to LockDoc), converted the manual 3 speed to automatic, and installed the buddy buckets yesterday. Its actually a shortbed stepside - but the bed is at the body shop right now.

Very cool! I like the changes so far, and it's always nice to see someone keep the straight 6 in there!

I love those buddy buckets as well. Can't wait to see the finished product. BTW, I've got a buddy that's a big Clemson fan and dentist in Greenville. How close are you to that area?

edit: just googled it and see you are close to the Greenville area. Sorry for the hijack!

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: A Few Pics of my Grandpas 68 C 10

Way cool, I wouldn't do it much different...
The stock type HEI, is a smart move. Make sure the engine is grounded to the body, and grounded to the frame.
Factory disc brakes work VERY well, glad to see that, no need to go overboard on any aftermarket parts, very wise move, there!!!

Is the cowl a modified stocker, or something that can be bought???

I'm glad to see you have power steering, these pickup's need it!!!

Can you give some explanation on the gas tank picture???
Getting the tank out of the cab, on those pickups is a great idea. I plan to do the same w/ my 67 and 68.

What did the buckets come out of???? I've seen them in blazers, only...

I prefer fleet sides over step sides, but I believe, you'll do a great job on your bed, following the theme of the rest of your work!!!

Awsome!! Love family history you'll feel everytime you are within 40 feet of it. I do wonder though...smooth cowl means no kick panel vents; a/c?

There is plenty of air for the heater, A/C, and vents with a smooth cowl believe it or not... Do you get as much air out of the vents? No, but you still get enough to feel it.

Re: A Few Pics of my Grandpas 68 C 10

Thanks for all the compliments and advice. This is such a great place to hang out and learn about our old rides. Everyone on here is top notch and the few I have met in person are great guys. I can't wait to get her finished. It was a great thrill to me to be able to show it to my dad and let him drive it for the first time in 20 or so years. As a side note, today would have been my Grandpa's 88th birthday - I forgot to include this picture earlier, but if you look at my 1968 SC license plate FA 1023 - its a little memorial to my grandpa (he was born in Oct of 1923 - and his first name and middle name were Felder Able, but everyone called him FA for short.
