How do you make a steering wheel shine

I've got 3 pretty good black steering wheels and 2 of them are a bit dull, anyway to make shine again without painting them? Thanks for any help, Randy

Re: How do you make a steering wheel shine

Randy,

I use a product called GOO-GONE to get the oily residue off of them. Should be able to get it at Wally-World, Walgreens, Farm stores, or hardware stores. Use plenty, it won't hurt the wheel. If it looks pretty decent when you get that done put a couple coats of paste wax on it.

Re: How do you make a steering wheel shine

The dullness is probably just years of grime, maybe some laquer thinner or the like, then hit it with the buffer.

Randy, you can sand scratches out with very fine sand paper, 400 to 1000 grit depending on how deep your scratches are and then use a polishing compound and it will shine up very nice

Re: How do you make a steering wheel shine

I use Brasso on plastic lenses to bring them back to life... I bet a good cleaning and a little elbow grease would work...

Let us know how it comes out..

Re: How do you make a steering wheel shine

Once you get it clean just wipe some baby oil on it ,I use it in my El Camino and Chevelle on the steering wheel ,seats ,door panels and dash pads ,even on all the exposed rubber gaskets .I plan to use it on my truck when it comes home from the bodyshop one day.
