looking for something for the rat rod that isn't crazy expensive, but from the vintage era... turn signal, brake and running light.

I'm looking for the same thing. I'm building a flatbed with a 2X4 frame. I want something that I can inset (countersink). There are a a lot of 4" rounds out there but I need 3" rounds.
Saw a few pairs on ebay for around 70 bucks that might fit your needs though.

I have the el cheapo plastic bullet style right now, but to add a 3rd light for the running light it will look like a blasted drag strip tree going down the road...

Those can get expensive in a hurry.

I've got a pair of turn signals on a 1-1/2 ton that would look good as tail lights if they had red lenses in them.
They were probably put on it when it was new. I'm going to leave them for turn signals if I do what I am thinking about with it though.


You might check with the bike shops around town as a lot of times when they upgrade guys bikes with that HOG required dooDAA stuff they stick the original stuff in a box and sell if pretty cheap. I got the front turn signals for my T bucket that way for about 5 bucks.

I don't have a photo but the guy who bought my 51 Merc replaced the 59 Caddy bullets with 56 Chevy tail lights it looks like the lenses by them selves are fairly reasonable but they are a bit bigger than 3 inches.

Just my 2 cents. Have you checked out any truck gas/stops (semi trucks). I was at a Flying J truck stop the other day. They had both reg & led set ups in 2" 3" 4" round and cone light in all colors along with chrome and stainless bezels. Just a thought?

We have a shop here in yakima that just sells goodies for big rigs. Lots of tail lights at decent prices and more shiny stuff than you can imagine.

I have the model t taillights in my 53 there not too expensive

If you have 3 inch holes frenched in the rolled pan 53 Chevy car lens should fit.

A guy would have to put a universal socket behind them and paint the surface behind the lens white but the cost would be pretty low.

i think the tailights with the ''stop'' written into it is very cool - ones used on 20sand 30s cars .
they have them @ so cal speed parts or i am sure you can find the online - they jus look cool .
now if only ppl knew what it meant! lol

I used 3 inch lights on my project. Got them at tractor supply for 5 bucks each. Maybe Im not understanding what you mean about needing 3 lights. 1 light can be wired to to run all three functions...parking light,brake light and turn signal. You just have to make sure you buy a light with a 2 coil bulb. Everything else is done by how its wired. My dads 54 has dual rear lights on both sides. He has it so only one on each side, the outside light, flashes when he hit the turn signals. Plus he has blue dots in the lenses. It looks pretty cool. IMO.

I've seen guy use side marker lights from 78 Trans Am used as tail lights. Fit flush and looked good.

I've seen several at truck stops as mentioned but I also like the Deville tail lights mounted in the stake pockets.
