Any body buying trucks these days?

Im kicking around the idea of letting my K20 go and was checking out the classifieds here. Looks like a lot of the trucks for sale have been there quite awhile.

I was checking Craigslist to get an idea on prices and they are all over the board, even for trucks in the same condition. Selling anything via Craigslist can be such a crap shoot with all the knuckleheads out there (sorry if you are one of the knuckleheads lol)

And no this isn't a for sale thread (I know where those go), I was just wondering if it was worth the hassle trying to sell a decent ride these days. Any one having luck selling a truck in this economy?

Re: Any body buying trucks these days?

No money to spare, interest rates on savings down to almost nothing, gas prices still high and we know they ain't coming down. Uncertainty about the economy and what the administration is going to do about energy in the next few years. Job outlook for some is dim.

When you combine all of the above, it puts a screeching halt to fun money for our trucks. Most people have invested a lot of money and would like to recoup some of it or maybe make a profit but it's a very slow market and most won't sell for the asking price.

It's pretty rough out there right now. Like you said, there is a lot to choose from and some pretty cheap too. If you had a choice, I might wait untill spring anyway. WES

Sorry man, its the same deal here in So Idaho, money is tight with everybody. Hold onto it if you can for awhile, things cant stay bad forever. Nobody down here is buying anything, they are too worried where their next paycheck is coming from.

I tried to sell an airplane about a year ago, and wound up parting it out due to the lowball offers I received. Broke my heart to disassemble it, but I wasn't in the mood to be raped.

Re: Any body buying trucks these days?

I had two or three inquiries from here on the board on my Longhorn but nothing past emailing additional photos. I ended up selling it within a couple days to the first person that came to look at it off of Craigslist for real close to my asking price... he was a dealer who in turn, "flipped it" not sure if they have sold it yet or not but they do sell a ton of vehicles to Austrailia and Puerto Rico which seems that a lot of our classic cars seem to be going these days. I say advertise it for a fair price, beware of scammers but it isn't going to hurt to put it out there..just kind of a crappy time of year with the holidays and snow for some of you.

BTW I am currently looking (not hard) for something but a lot of people here on Craigslist are HIGH (or at least high on price)

Re: Any body buying trucks these days?

I dont need to sell it. I was just going to park it away in the barn, and figured if its just going to sit maybe I should just see if I could move it down the road to someone that could use it.

Ill keep watching the ads here and on Craigslist to get a better handle on things. I appreciate the input so far!

Re: Any body buying trucks these days?

There are people buying, but mostly in the lower price ranges. I couldn't get a sniff on my nice rust free swb fleet box, and was baffled until a member pointed out to me that most people up here have figured out it is better in the present economy to go buy a nice complete truck than piece something together. Grea for buyers, bad for sellers.

Re: Any body buying trucks these days?

There is the odd truck that hits the right note with a guy and they buy it off craigslist, here, or ebay...but as a whole the market is DOWN!

25K trucks (from early 2000's) selling for 12-15K.....good for buyers...not for sellers

Nice trucks in the 3-6K range still sell pretty fast but they are pretty nice trucks and in a good economy many of those would be 8-10K trucks easy...

Re: Any body buying trucks these days?

I am, but Im looking for very specific things in a truck and if I cant find it, I'll wait. Its all about finding the right buyer, and if the right buyer is 2,000 miles away, he has to spend $1,000-$1,500 for shipping and it kills the deal. Keep it on CL, the buyer is out there, he just hasnt seen it yet.

Re: Any body buying trucks these days?

If I was considering selling a truck I wouldn't hesitate to put it out there. If it doesn't sell, then put it away and wait. The economy sucks, but not for everyone. I see people buying toys. Sure trucks, houses, etc all went for more not long ago. But,prices were overinflated and unrealistic. People were offering more than the asking price for a house just to assure they got it. The economy went from overly optimistic and speculative to overly skeptical. There are a few factors at work causing a poor economy, but the biggest was money made too easily available by the banks for investments selling for more than they were worth. It's not until the last decade or so that's you'd expect to even get what you had into a vehicle out of it,let alone make money building one. This was caused by investors getting into the collector vehicle hobby. Before that it was only enthusiasts who do it because they like it,like playing golf.
What's so bad about selling an unrestored vehicle that sold for $3-4 thousand new for $5-6 40 years later?

Re: Any body buying trucks these days?

Someone saw mine in the bodyshop and asked about buying it but the owner of the shop told him in not very nice words to get away from it that it aint fer sale .He probably thought that since there wasnt much happening with it yet that he could buy it cheap ,not happening.Good luck with the sale.

Re: Any body buying trucks these days?

It's a real good buyer's market...if you have been saving your $$ now is a great time to buy. Plenty to chose from so take your time.
Selling...not so much.

Re: Any body buying trucks these days?

There seems to be a lot of classic cars and trucks on Craigslist now days around here that are priced real low, the economy seems to have driven the prices down.

I thought about selling my '71 for a while, but when one of my 17 year old grandsons showed interest in it, I gave it to him minus the engine and transmission. It had an engine and transmission in it we are putting in my '67 project. He wants a small block with and auto and mine is a big block with the old style truck 4 speed.

We have bought a couple of trucks in the last month or so real cheap. One we will fix up and sell and the other is being used as a donor. The prices are real low here now for fixer uppers.

We have better luck selling stuff if we list them in the St. Louis craiglist than locally.

If I had something I wanted to get decent money for I would wait until after tax time next year when the weather starts getting nice.

Re: Any body buying trucks these days?

Like mentioned before it's all about what a guy is looking for at that time.
It only takes one phone call to sell it.

Craiglist is free to list on & eBay gives you about 10 free listings a year for vehicles & still gets the most traffic. eBay is good advertisement for a vehicle even if you sell it outside of there.

Throw it out there & test the waters... I've sold a 72 & a 32 Ford while "testing the waters" in the last couple years.

Re: Any body buying trucks these days?

Shortbed C10's will go quicker, but even those have to be competitively priced before they'll shift, I reckon your K20 is gonna sit a while before you get a bite, but like you say if it's sittin anyway why not test the water.

Re: Any body buying trucks these days?

Like others said, listing it (generally) is free. And, being a 4x4, this time of year may not be as bad to list it compared to a 2wd. And, if you think of it this way, a nice $10k truck like ours is still a lot cheaper than getting one off the show room floor.

CG, I'll make you a deal: I'll buy your truck for full asking price if you buy my house in Poulsbo for full asking price. Deal?

I sold my 58 recently. I put ad in the free listings like Craigslist & the old truck websites & spent about $100 for listings on the internet like Auto Trader. It took about 6 months but someone flew in from about 1000 miles away & drove it back. He e-mailed me he is thrilled to death with it.
