Re: Build #2 Crusader!

Haven't made a whole lot of progress. between my work schedule, having to transfer all my pics, documents, music and everything else to a new computers, family members passing away, fixing the wifes car, fixing my daily driver, and this years unbearable heat. I just haven't spent much time in the garage.

Anyway When I last left off we were sanding it and getting it ready for some primmer.

I soon discovered the driver door had been hit and was full of mud and was not repairable (at least by me anyway) so I search the local junk yard and to my surprise found a good door actually it was a new door someone had put a on a old truck and somehow it ended up in the scrap yard. anyway paid $30 bucks for it and took home and painted the inside then hung it on the truck.

spray whole truck in two coats of epoxy primmer

as you can see this primmer dries in a nice semi gloss black. so if you sand it with long sanding block it reveals all the low spots nicely.

So thats where Im at now. I need to finish spreading and sanding the filler (what joy)

oh and this is my new daily driver Thank god the A/C works!
centercaps are on the way

Yes, I just got the insulation aka sound deadner today I have amost 900 sq ft of it so I hope you guys will be needing some. Im working on getting package quanities and shipping boxes. Im thinking of putting together kits like Dynamat does a 12 sf , 36 sf and then ill add 60sf for the crew cab guys. all will be much, much cheaper than dynamat extream.

Re: Build #2 Crusader!

My old winter beater is going in the demo derby today at my local county fair. I donated it to the local fire dept. I first took everything that was any good off of it., which wasnt much. When its all said and done it will go to the scraper. I am seriously considering taking the engine and trans out when the demo is over if its still good. I just dont have the time right now, although id like to have them for future projects.

Re: Build #2 Crusader!

na it went out fairly quick. there were several square bodies out there, but there was this 63 ford that looked like it had been in many battles so it was well crumpled. his truck was so soild it came out looking the same as it went in. my truck took a hard hit in the driver front wheel and it broke the steering shaft at the gearbox. so it could not steer anymore plus the front bumper was in the tire.

it was pretty cool to watch it though

Re: Build #2 Crusader!

Let the fire department cut up the front end then grab out the engine.

Re: Build #2 Crusader!

None of us seam to have time to do that. there were only couple guys working on it. I thought about the night before and I already have 4 small blocks I guess I dont need another just sitting around in the way. I did manage to snatch off all the throttle body injection stuff before it heads to the metal recycler this morning.
all in all she donated quite a few good parts that will live on in my other projects. and the cash I get from the scraper will also go in to the project budget fund.

Re: Build #2 Crusader!

Still sanding and filling and sanding and filling, and sanding and filling this has got to be the worst part of building a truck, espeically when you dont know what your doing. however it is getting closer. I have just the drivers bed side to do yet. thanks to my lovely wife coming out to help sand the hood and tailgate. after I get the last bedside sanded it will be time for some more epoxy primer and a good coat of Polyester primer for another round of sanding.

Re: Build #2 Crusader!

Alright, I been busy tring to get everything lined up for my line of sound deadener, and I have just about everything ready. I am having custom boxes made and they are just a few days out yet. Once they get here ill be ready to ship. I thought I would let those that follow this thread get the first look.

I decide to call it Rhinomat. Like I said before it is comparable to the leading brand of extream sound deadener. It has all the same benefits, but with out the huge cost.

* Easy to cut with razor knife or scissors.
* Just peel and stick
* All sheets measure 18"x 32" 0.067 thick

Enough Rhinomat to do a complete floor and back wall of a:

Regular cab truck $148.00 (40sf)
Crew cab truck $198 (56sf)

Other popular size kits:
Door kit $48 (12sf)
bulk kit $138 (36sf)

let me know what you guys think

Both nice items. You should look into selling the electric rear sliding window.

Re: Build #2 Crusader!

before i started all this body work, the truck quite running it stumble back fired a few times then qiute and wouldn't start. acted like it wasnt getting any fuel. so shot some either in the TB still nothing must be spark pulled the number one plug and checked it. it was firing. got spark but didnt see fuel but it wouldnt run on either. what could it possibly be.

I have never seen or heard of a pick up coil rusting and disintegrating like that. when i took the cap off big chunks come falling out.

I took the old distributor from my winter beater and dropped it in the truck fired right up. it was pretty easy to change with no hood or windshield
