Big Block ID is usually found on a little smooth pad on the PS cylinder head or top of the timing chain cover..heres mine. T= Tonawanda 07= Month 11= Day TRR= Engine Code

Jeremy, if you can get the last three letters in one of the places I described like mine, they're called the "Engine Suffix Code" that will tell you what you have.
TRR = 1979 Truck 454 I don't think that # is the one to tell you what engine you have..... Here is the list of casting #'s for Big Blocks. http://www.ajgeneral.com/bbc_block_casting_numbers/

OK ..thanks for the link..I will check the block again...the number I gave was stamped below the head on pass side on the block..mechanic wants to give me $500 for it..just want it to be fair deal for both...I ran the motor 10 years,used a quart of oil once a month..moderate driving...
