what are you useing for heat

As the title says what is everyone useing for heaters.
I drive my 56 everyday year round, in the summer ai run 2/60 for heat. But in the winter (So-Cal gets cold also). Wearing a beanie an sweater gets old after a while.
If you have heaters please let me know what you are useing an if you have pics even better.
Thanks in advance.

Re: what are you useing for heat

Happy belated 236th Birthday & Veterans day Marine!
I'm using a hotrod air & heat in my 59. It's not connected yet (waiting on a/c fittings and bulkhead plates). I thinks Hotrod air is a knock of of Vintage air.

Re: what are you useing for heat

Probably the easiest is a stock heater but a guy would have to figure that he was going to have to do some work on a used one before putting it in.

Back in the 50's when those trucks were sold new and a heater was an extra cost option and guy in SoCal, Hawaii, Florida and other warm places often left them off to save a few bucks you could buy aftermarket heaters that were pretty much a square box with a heater core and a fan. They are still around used but again you would probably have to repair or replace the heater core and quite often the fans are six volt.

Besides the old car AC/heat vendors that we know there are also small aftermarket heaters made to go in Semi trucks but new they are pretty spendy.
There are also some small rear seat heaters floating around for vans or Suburban style rigs that a guy might find in a wrecking yard. here is one example http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevy-GMC-Va...item56446b982b
or if there are school buses in the local junk yard look in them for auxiliary heaters. They might be a bit big but maybe you could cut the housing down. The defrosters out of a bus might be big enough to heat a pickup cab if it doesn't too cold.

That's what i have in my 50, works great. I do have one minor complaint......The heater doesn't have any air flow without the fan on. Result, either on or off no in between. I'm planning to make a plenum to direct some air to my defroster vents. Flexalite sells a plenum but I'm looking for something a little different.

I used that heater in a 63 Econoline I built a while back. Good heater and if you buy the plenum you can add defrost function fairly easy.

I've got a heater I pulled out of my 59 apache I will let go for pretty cheap. The heater core is in good shape. I can check the blower motor tomorrow to make sure it works. basically a box with a heater core and blower. PM me if you are interested I can send you some pics. I plan on going with vintage air in my rebuild.
