I just installed a 700R4 and haven't hooked up the lockup solenoid. Can I still drive it like that? I'm only going to be driving it in town.

As long as the converter doesn't slip excessively in high gear, it should be no problem at all.

grab a 2 position toggle switch and wire it in temporarily; let me get mine to lockup on the hwy, at least while I figured the other stuff out with the brake switch.

If you need the part number for a 4 post brake switch for lockup I have that as well.

i test drove it shifted good three times could hardly feel it and didn't feel no slipping

I been driving mine for 2 years with out the lock up hooked up. No problems so far.

You acually want to feel the shift. The tranny I had in my 79 4x4 would chirp the rear tires sometimes. Man that thing shifter hard. I think I will take the corvette style servo out and see if that calms it down a bit. This is a 700R4 I am talking about. I was using the truck for alot of hauling and stuff so I put a reprograming kit in it along with the Corvette Style servo.

I hope you setup the TV cable correctly. That is more important than the lockup. However the lockup is also important, but that not functioning won't burn up your trans in a short time, like a improperly setup TV cable.

Concur with CaptFab - and part of the process should usually be a line pressure check I believe.

Hope that helps. Again, all the fancy stuff may not be necessary, but completely agree with Capt, the TV cable must be adjusted correctly or you'll burn er up in no time.

I also agree... TV adjustment is #1.

On the 700r4 we put in the '65, we bypassed the lockup switch in the trans. No problems there....
