3-speed rr
Anyone here ever rebuit there 3-speed manual trans themselves? If so ..... How long did it take and was it very hard? From a 59 truck.

Its an easy trans to rebuild. You have to be careful of not getting the needle bearings in place during assembly. The only special tool is a puller for the rear bearing. It pulls the bearing and speedo gear off. Should take about 4 hrs if you don't need parts.

Step one is to get your hands on a factory service manual that shows diagrams and photos and gives detailed step by step instructions on how to rebuild one. The aftermarket books assume too much or don't cover it.
It's usually easiest and less messy to drain the gear oil out of the trans before you pull it. Then I would suggest cleaning up the outside of the case and getting all the grease and dirt off it before opening it up. But that goes on any part you work on. I haven't hunted for parts for one for years so I am at a loss on finding trans parts and gaskets out side of looking first at the regular vendors for truck parts and checking Napa and other local sources. Nothing on Napa online but you might check with the store you go to. |

There reprinted factory service manuals on Ebay. Usually they are about 30.00.
