Re: 97 GMC 1500 parts

If you decide to part the cab interior my son is needing the heat and air control for his '96 Chevy Z71 pickup. Should be the same I would think? Need the control unit and the wire harness both. Also if parting, what are the sunvisors like? Need a tan or camel cloth set with working vanity mirrors and shade extentions for my '99 Tahoe. Pics would help to clarify if you decide to part the cab.

Re: 97 GMC 1500 parts

It was basically a work truck series with blue vinyl interior and bench seat. I pulled the steering column out of it a few months ago because I had someone interested in it but the deal fell through, so it is just laying in the cab. I will post pictures this afternoon when I get home.

Re: 97 GMC 1500 parts

Do you know if the heat and air controls were working in the truck? My son could use them to include the wire harness that attaches to the back. Any broken mount tabs or clips? Price and shipping to 67152 zip.

Re: 97 GMC 1500 parts

Sorry forr the slowness of reply on this.. I thought I had the cab sold locally but it does not appear it is going to work out. If it does not work out i will part it out and you will be fiirst in line for the heat controls and harness. I should know a little later today.

Well deal did not work out on whole cab sale so I just pulled out the control unit. both tabs that hold the outside plugs on were broke off but the plugs were firmly in place. before i go removing wire harness wanted to check with you to see if you are still interested since the tabs are missing. also do you need entire harness or just pigtails? looks like it will be a bit of time getting complete harness out. I would `guess $30 for control & $50 for harness pluss shipping. If harness proves to be a little easier to remove I could probably back off a few bucks. Let me know & I will get a shipping quote to ya. Thanks

Re: 97 GMC 1500 parts

My son stopped by and when I talked to him he said what he is needing is the short "jumper" harness that goes from the back of the control unit and connects to the main under dash harness. He said it is only about 10'' or 12'' inches in length with several black plastic connectors.

Your sons harness must be different than this one. All the radio plugs go back into the main harness on the truck. I do not see any connectors to detach it from the main harness.

Re: 97 GMC 1500 parts

Not looking for the radio harness, he is wanting the short pigtail harness from the back of the heat/air control. Approx. 10-12 inches long and uses plastic connectors to clip to the back of the control. Then it plugs into the main underdash harness using plastic connectors.

I mistyped it should have said heater not radio, but in either case I do not see where it plugs into the main harness. I followed it all the way back to the main trunk and it just goes into the wad of tape and loom with no connectors.
It has the plugs to clip it to the back of the control but that is it. I will get a picture of it at lunch time when I go home.

Any luck on the pic of the wire harness on the back of the air/heat control unit? If the connections to the control are the same on the back maybe could splice them his harness?

here are some pictures I snapped this morning before heading to work. Days are getting shorter so harder to get pictures during the week.

Re: 97 GMC 1500 parts

Richard, I see what you mean about the wire harness going into the main wire trunk. Since I have not actually seen my son's truck wiring set-up can't really say if it is compatible. Will most likely see him sometime this weekend and have him look at your pics. Hopefully he will be able to tell if the harness you have can be spliced to his trunk. Thanks again for the pics.

Re: 97 GMC 1500 parts

Richard, my son stopped by this afternoon and looked at the pics you posted of your truck harness. Said it did seem a bit differant in that his has connetor ends at both the control and the point where it enters the main wire
harness. Thinks he may be able to splice into his harness with the connector section from yours. Not really needing the control, his problem is a couple bad plastic connector ends on his harness that won't stay tight to the terminal block on the back of the control. I take it the plastic end connectors are in good condition on your harness? My son wants to know how much for the harness from the control back as far as possible into the main harness, say at least 10 or 12 inches with the good connectors to make a good splice? Shipping to 67152 zip code and newspaper wrapped in a bubble envelope would be good. Thanks.

Re: 97 GMC 1500 parts

Still interested in the 10'' or 12'' section of the heat/air control harness to 67152 zip code. Son stopped by and asked me about it this morning, told him I had not heard from you as of yet.

Re: 97 GMC 1500 parts

Even being careful trying to remove the plugs the retaining clips broke on two of the plugs. They fit very tight even without them but I would recommend keeping them with the control unit. if you still want them I would do the unit and pigtails all the way back to main harness for $40 shipped.

Thanks for the pics but my son has decided to pass on the control and harness. He already has a harness with mounting issues so another one with mounting issues won't cure his problem. Thanks again.
