Found a great, cheap and easy way to clean chrome

I read somewhere that all you need is wet aluminum foil. The aluminum is softer that the chrome so it will not scratch it but will polish it. I was sceptical about it due to the metal to metal but I decided to try it on my hood emblem and it really worked. Just wanted to share.

I didn't take before pictures but will post after pictures. I will also be doing my grill so I will make sure to take before and after pix. Now I just have to figure out how to post pictures.

Steel wool is a common use for polishing chrome and metal...just make sure it is real fine. If you buy it from Home Depot, it tells you on the package which one is good for this.

Probably the 0000 steel wool. IIRC, that's the finest?

I spilled a can in the bed of my old 68 4X4 and it removed the rust where it sat for a while. I tried it a few years later and it didn't work as well.

Re: Found a great, cheap and easy way to clean chrome

I tried this foil technique last night on a 3100 badge from my hood since I am getting non-pitted one. It worked pretty well but it was hard to say if it was perfect since the chrome isn't perfect to begin with.

Re: Found a great, cheap and easy way to clean chrome

On some other forums I have seen before and after pics using aluminum foil and vinegar. A remarkable difference. This is only a stop gap measure tho, as the chrome will oxidize easier after the 'treatment.'

Here's a site that has some before and afters.
