Rear Bumper: Can a 67' - 70' fit on a 65'?

Has anyone tried to fit a 1967' and older rear bumper on a 1965 chevy stepside?

I saw a picture of a fleetside doing this; however, I just wanted to see if anyone had success with a stepside.

Without doing any modifications... no due to the frame changes.
But you can make anything work! Modify the bumper brackets!

Re: Rear Bumper: Can a 67' - 70' fit on a 65'?

Thank you Frizzle fry and 1bad62 for the replies. I really appreciate it. I would prefer to go with a roll pan; however, the laws here state specifically that I need a bumper. I also have to get a reconstruction permit. What a hassle.

I really like the cleaner look that Frizzle Fry has accomplished. I guess that is out of the question for my stepside.

thanks again guys.

Those aren't mine. Wish they were. I plan on using one of those bumpers on my 64 though.

I hope the images are displayed.

Here is my truck. I need to install a rear bumper. I think the 67' bumper would look better than the 65' that looks upside down. Any other ideas for bumpers? I would like it smaller.

I also have to install flowmasters or something. any ideas here?

Re: Rear Bumper: Can a 67' - 70' fit on a 65'?

you can put a 67-72 stepside bumper on your 65! you just need to buy the bumper and the brackets and it will bolt right up! you could have a fleetside bumper modified but really the 67-72 stepside would pretty much look the same! you might have to raise your taillights a lil if you go with a 67-72 stepside bumper! i have seen your truck on ebay were you selling it or did you buy it?? what size pipe do you have for exhaust??

Chad64 I appreciate your expertise. I was wondering about the taillights also. Is it an easy fix to raise the lights?

I bought the truck and it is on the barge right now headed to me. Not sure about the size of the pipes.

1bad62 thanks for the reply and link. Still considering the 67' bumper, but might have to stick with the 65' due to tail light issues.
regarding the mufflers, I probably would like a muscle car sound. However, I need to actually check what kind of muscle I do have. I know it is a 350 with lots of cosmetic upgrades. Need to see what was done to the actual motor.

When I was in Scottsdale a few weeks ago at the Good Guys show I stopped in and spoke to the guys at the Flowmaster trailer.

They suggested flowmaster 50s with an H pipe if you want the sound and not the headache.
