57 swb rear end ratio?

I am trying to confirm my rear end ratio. The wheel turning method showed that 3.5 turns of the drive shaft to one turn of the tire.

I took the rear cover off for cleaning and oiling and I counted the gear teeth and the big wheel has 39 and the small wheel has 16.

I am not sure what rear end this is, however it has a smooth 9", 10 bolt cover.

Does anyone know what the ratio would be?
thanks,
larry

Re: 57 swb rear end ratio?

mathwise it calculates out to a 2.43 ratio which isn't uncommon for late 70's to early 80's 10 bolt rears, it usually showed up as 2.41 on spids/build sheets (in second gen camaros at least). so you either have that or counted teeth wrong.

Re: 57 swb rear end ratio?

The turn the tire method depends on which wheel you turn on an open rear end (no posi). You need jack up and turn the side that has the ring gear, usually the passenger side. But since you have it open the ring and pinion tell the whole story.
