Motor Oil

hello,
how much motor oil must in a 283 V8?
what type oil is in the rear axle?

5 quarts in the engine and 85w90 gear oil, if you have a limited slip then use the 85w90 for limited slip differentials or the gm limited slip additive and standard lube

Just for clarification the 5 quart capacity includes what is in the oil filter. Or in other words 5 quarts total. If you have the old bolt on steel canister type cartridge filter, you should put 4 quarts in the engine and run it for a few seconds to circulate the oil into the filter. Then add the 5th quart to the engine.

If you have an adapter for a spin on filter, add one quart to the filter before installing, and the other 4 in the engine.
