Trouble with PAC AAI-GM9

Ok, I ordered a PAC AAI-GM9 the other day for my '98 because I had heard how much better my iPod/iPhone would sound through it rather than an FM transmitter or tape adapter. It came today and I speedily rushed out to get it hooked up, but honestly, I'm a little disappointed. The sound quality is not what I expected. Keep in mind that I'm a musician by trade and have done my share of studio engineering, so I'm pretty picky, but my wife could even tell the difference. I expected CD quality sound and it just ain't happening. Everything sounds more compressed. Highs are not as crisp. I have to crank my sub up to make it hit. When you switch back and forth between CD and iPod there is a NOTICEABLE difference. My cables seem to be high quality enough. So, what's up?

what commpression setting your burning to the ipod?
it'll never sound like a c/d apple has 4 compression setting now..
the bigger the file the less compressed..

Re: Trouble with PAC AAI-GM9

I think I've got it set to a pretty low compression (larger file size). I can usually hear the difference and it bothers me. This seems like more than that.

I swapped out a few cables and got it sounding a little better. Would it help the sound quality to buy a cable that converts to rca from the docking port rather than running through the headphone out? I thought I might try that next.

It will never sound very good using the headphone port. If you can get a cable that uses the dock port it will sound much better
